Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: The following is a series of excerpts that will address current traffic issues at the University of Texas. The University of Texas generally has three types of traffic; pedestrian traffic, bicycle traffic and motor vehicle traffic – there is no skateboarding, roller-skating or rollerblading allowed on the UT campus. People who participate in any of the authorized forms of transportation are responsible for doing their part to reduce collisions; thereby mitigating injuries. Most people do not realize bicyclists are required to follow the same laws as those pertaining to motor vehicles. That means bicyclists must STOP at all stop signs, yield right of way and ride on the right side of the road. I would be derelict in my duties if I failed to point out the bicycle dismount zone on Speedway Avenue between 22nd street and 24th street. The Bicycle Dismount Zone is reserved for pedestrian traffic. Bicycles may not be ridden in the bicycle dismount zone between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 36 alarm calls, 1 medical emergency, 3 unsecured door reports, and 3 suspicious activity reports between 09-09-08 and 09-10-08. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime. Your call may help solve or prevent a crime. Campus Watch comments should be directed to Officer Darrell Halstead at 512-232-9634 or via e-mail to Darrell.halstead@austin.utexas.edu .
