Occurred between 09/13/08 at 11:30 p.m. and 09/14/08 at 12:45 p.m. Crime Prevention Tip: This type of theft occurs more frequently then you might realize. Sadly, I do not believe I have done enough to prevent such a bicycle theft. The owner of this bicycle did utilize two locking mechanisms just as we recommend, but sadly I have not gotten the message out about how to secure your bicycle. You should always make sure the locking mechanism is looped through closed portions of your bicycle such as the frame and the wheel(s). The locking mechanism should also be looped around the fixed bicycle rack. All too often, students place the locking mechanism around an item like the front fork and the bicycle rack. All a thief needs to do is remove certain bicycle parts then slide the bicycle from the lock.
