Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 09-22-08 and Tuesday, 09-23-08. The 25th Annual National Night Out is Tuesday, October 7, 2008 ANNA HISS GYM, 2501 Wichita Theft: An orange colored tri-fold wallet containing two credit cards, $25.00 in cash, and personal identification was stolen from inside a closed backpack. Loss value: $30.00. Occurred on: 9-22-08, between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM. JESSE H JONES COMMUNICATION CENTER 2405-B Whitis Ave. Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping under the stair case located on the northeast side of the building. During the investigation, the subject informed the officer that he was trying to stay out of the sun while he slept. As the investigation continued, the officer soon discovered that the subject had several outstanding outside agency warrants. The subject was taken into custody for the outstanding warrants and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 9-22-08, at 3:04 PM. 1800 BLOCK LAVACA Driving While Intoxicated: A UT police officer observed a black Acura commit several traffic offenses in addition to traveling the wrong way on a posted one-way street. During the traffic investigation, the officer noted that the driver had a hard time maintaining his thoughts and completing requested tasks. The driver responded to questions as if he were in slow motion. As the investigation continued, the driver informed the officer that he had been taking prescription medication. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the non-UT driver. During the tests, the driver displayed several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-23-08, at 2:33 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Some might be asking, Why did this subject go to jail for DWI if he had not been drinking? Alcohol is not the only substance that will impair one's cognitive abilities. Many prescription drugs include warnings not to operate heavy machinery, a personal vehicle falls into this category. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 22 alarm calls, 1 welfare concern report, 2 suspicious vehicle reports, and 10 unsecured door reports between 09-22-08 and 09-23-08.
