Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 09/30/08 and Wednesday, 10/01/08. If you have any information pertaining to any of these cases or other criminal or suspicious activity, please contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. The 25th Annual National Night Out is Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the Gregory Gym Aquatic Complex and The Brackenridge Apartment Complex Jasper Park. Come out to meet your neighbors, enjoy food, games, entertainment and a chance to win one of many door prizes. Come out to one of the two parties for your chance to win one of many wonderful door prizes like an i-pod, a free Kaplan LSAT or GMAT course, water craft rentals from Just for Fun or gift certificates from local businesses and restaurants. While you are out at the Aquatic Complex National Night Out Party, be sure to sign-up for one of the scheduled activities; like a Hot Shots pool basketball shoot out, a cannon ball contest, a limbo contest or get a couple of friends and participate in a swimming relay. The more activities you participate in the more opportunities you will have to win one of the many door prizes. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 210 East Martin Luther King Criminal Mischief: An unknown object was used to scratch markings on the trunk lid, rear quarter panel and bumper of a grey 2008 BMW that was parked on the 5th level of the parking garage. Repair cost: $800.00. Occurred between 09/28/08 at 11:15 p.m. and 09/29/08 at 10:39 a.m. GREGORY GYMNASIUM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A silver colored IPOD touch was stolen out of a backpack that was left on the basketball court bleachers while the owner was playing basketball. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred on 09/30/08 between 7:30 p.m. and 7:50 p.m. Crime Prevention Tip: Engaging in physical activities like basketball make it impossible to maintain the constant vigilance you would need to have to prevent your property from being stolen. Knowing that you can not watch your property while playing basketball, lifting weights or running around the track, take preventative action before you start your work out. Leave your valuables at home or make use of the many lockers found inside the UT Rec Sports facilities. When using the lockers, make sure you place a lock on the locker or invest the quarter it takes to secure the temporary lockers. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. JESTER CENTER EAST, 203 East 21st Street Theft: A black Specialized Hard Rock bicycle was stolen while it was secured with a cable lock to a bicycle rack located on the west side of the dormitory. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred between 09/06/08 and 09/26/08 at 2:30 p.m. PARKING LOT 99, 2000 Red River Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The right window was broken out of a black 2005 Chevrolet Malibu while the vehicle was parked and unattended. The dashboard and glove compartment box were damaged during the theft of a Jensen AM/FM/CD player car stereo and an i-pod. Repair cost: $550.00. Loss value: $650.00. Occurred on 09/30/08 between 1:50 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. T.S. PAINTER HALL, 103 West 24th Street Harassment: An unidentified subject sent an e-mail to a UT faculty member's e-mail account. The e-mail made threatening statements that the sender had been contracted to cause harm to the faculty member and encouraged the faculty member to contact the sender to work out an arraignment to keep the sender form causing the faculty member harm. Reported on 09/30/08 at 8:35 a.m. Crime Prevention Tip: The facts of this case do fit the elements of harassment. This is a common scam that is making its way around the world-wide web. If you receive such an e-mail, save the e-mail, file a police report and simply ignore the e-mail after that.
