Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 10/07/08 and Wednesday, 10/08/08. If you have any information pertaining to any of these cases or other criminal or suspicious activity, please contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. JACK S. BLANTON MUSEUM OF ART, 200 East Martin Luther King Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT student and two non-UT subjects had tied knots in the suspended surgical tubing that makes-up the interactive artwork located on the north side of the museum. The three subjects were laying on the knots causing them to be hang above the ground. One of the two non-UT subjects was found to be in possession of a plastic bag containing .02 ounces of marijuana and a small glass pipe containing burned marijuana residue. Occurred on 10/08/08 at 12:08 a.m. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Theft: A green and black REI backpack containing a $20 roll of quarters, a small umbrella, a flashlight, dry eraser markers, ear buds, foam earplugs, a green bandit mask, 2 cans of chicken noodle soup, 2 cans of beef soup, a notebook and a keychain with a miniature Monopoly board was stolen from an unsecured 1st floor room while the owner left the room for five minutes to check an item in a nearby room. Loss value: $65.00. Occurred on 10/03/08 between 6:35 p.m. and 6:40 p.m. MARY E. GEARING HALL, 200 West 24th Street Theft: A silver colored Motorola KRAZOR cellular telephone was stolen when it was left unattended on a desk in 1st floor computer lab. The owner of the stolen phone was in another area of the same room waiting for a print out on the computer lab's printer when the theft occurred. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on 10/06/08 between 12 noon and 12:05 p.m. Crime Prevention Tip: The above two cases truly show the risk you take when you turn your back on your property. Even being in the same room and not watching your property makes it at risk for theft. To secure your property, take it with you or secure it in some fashion before you leave it. PARKING LOT 114, 2200 Leona Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The rubber window molding around the window of a parked 1988 Saturn was removed. The removed molding provided an opening for which an unknown subject was able to gain access into the vehicle. A black hard carrying case containing an Alto Saxophone was stolen from the vehicle. Loss value: $1,500.00. Occurred between 10/05/08 at 2:00 a.m. and 10/06/08 at 6:00 p.m. UNIVERSITY TEACHING CENTER, 105 West 21st Street Theft: A UT student lost his wallet somewhere in the UTC building. The wallet was later turned into the UTPD Lost and Found. When the student retrieved his wallet, it was discovered that his Texas Driver's License had been stolen form the wallet. Other items inside the wallet, including cash was still in the wallet. Reported on 10/07/08 at 10:30 a.m. 2500 San Antonio Street Public Intoxication: Two non-UT subjects reported a third non-UT subject was laying down in the Jack-in-the-Box parking lot. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point she was a physical danger to herself. Occurred on 10/08/08 at 2:39 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 19 alarm calls, 1 welfare concern report, 2 medical emergency reports, 2 collisions, 1 public assist request, and 9 unsecured door reports between 10/07/08, and 10/08/08. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community.
