Occurred on 10/14/08 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Crime Prevention Tip: In case you are unfamiliar with the campus layout, Robert Lee Moore Hall, E.P. Schoch Building and Applied Computational Engineering & Sciences are all along the same two blocks. It is not uncommon for our office thieves to walk from building to building to commit such thefts. These types of crimes continue until the thief is caught. So please, keep the following in mind: - Never, ever leave your office unattended and unsecured. It only takes a few seconds for a thief to enter an office and steal property. - Keep your valuables secured in a lockable drawer or cabinet. - Be mindful of people in your building. Provide people with good customer service by asking if they need help. Many thieves are prepared to tell an inquiring person that they are looking for a certain person's office or the restroom. Extend that customer service by offering to show the person to the place they are looking for. Most thieves will refuse your offer and give an excuse to leave the area at that time. - Call the police department as soon as you notice someone suspicious in your area. - Tell others in your area or even in surrounding buildings of the suspicious person by sending them a quick e-mail or text about the suspicious person, what he or she looked like and what they were doing. Together we can stop these types of thefts. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was reported as acting combative around the building while wearing no shirt and no shoes. The subject was found lying down on the south side of the Peter T. Flawn Academic Center wearing nothing but his soiled britches. The subject was under the influence of alcohol to the point he was a danger to himself and others. Occurred on 10/14/08 at 11:20 p.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 20 alarm calls, 1 suspicious person report, 1 public assist request, 1 found property, 3 welfare concern reports, 1 found property report, 1 lost property report and 7 unsecured door reports between 10/14/08 and 10/15/08.
