Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 10-22-08 and Thursday, 10-23-08 If you have any information pertaining to any of these cases or other criminal or suspicious activity, please contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. * * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * * The University of Texas Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in the following case: On 10-21-08 at 10:58 AM officers responded to a reported fire at Parlin Hall. A fire was discovered inside the 3rd floor women's restroom. The University of Texas Police Department is asking for anyone who has any information pertaining to this incident contact the Criminal Investigations Unit at 512-232-9640. BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING BUILDING, 107 West Dean Keeton Burglary of Coin-Operated Machine: A UT Staff member discovered a Coin-Operated Machine, inside a 2nd floor women's restroom, had been left open after the locks had been removed. During the investigation, the UT police officer learned that an unknown amount of money and product had also been removed from the machine. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on: 10-22-08, at 12:18 AM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A black Louis Vuitton wallet, a silver Tissot watch, $40.00 in cash, several credit cards, and several forms of personal identification were stolen from inside an unsecured locker located inside the first floor men's locker room. During the investigation, the officer learned that the former owner had assumed that his friend was going to secure the locker. Loss value: $1,340. Occurred on: 10-22-08, between 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM. WOOLDRIDGE HALL, 600 West 24th Street Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out next to a trash dumpster. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject was unsure as to his location. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-23-08, at 2:46 AM. 2400 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Public Intoxication: A UT staff member discovered a UT student stumbling along the roadway attempting to flag down passing vehicles. The staff member watched as the student navigated the contours of a straight sidewalk. During the investigation, the officers located the subject and requested his ID card. The student handed the officer a credit card, then had a difficult time locating his driver's license. As the investigation continued, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-23-08, at 12:50 AM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: Many of these reported and unreported thefts could have been thwarted by simply securing personal or departmental property with a lock, a locked door, locked locker, or locked car. These simple barriers reduce a thief's ability to commit a theft. The value of a lock… at times is worth its weight in gold. Other times a simple lock is priceless. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 19 alarm calls, 2 suspicious activity reports, 1 collision report, and 1 public assist request report between 10-22-08 and 10-23-08.
