Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 10-23-08 and Friday, 10-24-08. If you have any information pertaining to any of these cases or other criminal or suspicious activity, please contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. * * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * * The University of Texas Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in the following case: On 10-21-08 at 10:58 AM officers responded to a reported fire at Parlin Hall. A fire was discovered inside the 3rd floor women's restroom. The University of Texas Police Department is asking for anyone who has any information pertaining to this incident contact the Criminal Investigations Unit at 512-232-9640. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, 100 East 21st Street Theft: A silver Dell laptop computer, computer case, Casio calculator, personal resume, and personal papers were stolen from an unsecured 3rd floor classroom after being left unattended. Loss value: $1,000.00. PARKING LOT 113, 2200 Comal Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student discovered an unknown subject had entered his vehicle and removed a tool box containing Craftsman wrenches, sockets and other tools, a set of booster cables, and a tow strap from the rear of the vehicle. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred on: 10-23-08, between 10:45 AM and 2:00 PM. NURSING SCHOOL, 1710 Red River Theft: A blue Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the southeast portion of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $650.00. Occurred on: 10-23-08, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. TOWNES HALL, 727 East Dean Keeton Theft: A silver Marin mountain bicycle was stolen after being secured to a bench located on the southeast side of the building. Loss value: $729.00. Occurred on: 10-23-08, between 12:01 PM and 6:00 PM. TOWNES HALL, 727 East Dean Keeton Suspicious Person: A UT staff member discovered an unknown subject rolled up in a sleeping bag, sleeping between two couches located on the 3rd floor. Prior to the arrival of the police officers, the subject had left the area. The subject was described as being white with curly blond hair. The unknown subject was last seen wearing a light colored green shirt. Occurred on: 10-23-08, at 6:47 AM. UNIVERSITY POLICE BUILDING, 2201 Robert Dedman Dr. Public Intoxication / Evading Arrest: A UT police officer discovered a non-UT subject standing in the middle of the lobby mumbling to himself. The subject appeared to be dazed and confused. As the officer approached the subject, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noticed that the subject's eyes were bloodshot and watery. The officer told the subject to sit down. The subject attempted to leave and the officer attempted to take the subject into custody. The subject was able to get free and took off running out of the station. The subject tripped and fell down the first flight of stairs. Upon landing on the landing, the subject attempted to leap over the next flight of stairs, hitting the retaining wall and rolling down the second flight. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and Evading Arrest. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-24-08, at 2:25 AM. 2400 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Driving While Intoxicated: A white Mercury was observed committing several traffic violations in addition to running through a stop sign. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The non-UT driver admitted to the officer that he had been to a downtown establishment and had consumed adult libations. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The driver displayed several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-24-08, at 2:50 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 27 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity reports, 3 medical emergency reports, one lighting survey, and 1 public assist request report between 10-23-08 and 10-24-08.
