Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: The holidays are just right around the corner and many of us are thinking about the family feast as well as the renewal of the Texas vs. Texas A&M football game that will be played on Thanksgiving Day. There are several people that are hoping that the holidays will create many opportunities for them to commit various crimes in and around the university area. Prior to the start of the holiday season, develop a checklist of things to do: Students: - Secure all personal property that you are leaving inside your dormitory or apartment inside a locked drawer or closet. - Double check that all of the windows and doors are secured - Temporarily suspend your mail and newspaper services. - Ask a friend or neighbor to watch over your apartment while you are gone. Staff and Faculty Members: - Secure all of your personal property inside a secured desk drawer or filing cabinet. - Double check to ensure the alarm is activated and your office area is secured. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 16 alarm calls, 3 unsecured door reports, 1 motor vehicle collision, and 2 suspicious activity reports between 11-18-08 and 11-19-08. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime. Your call may help solve or prevent a crime. Campus Watch comments should be directed to Officer Darrell Halstead at 512-232-9634 or via e-mail to Darrell.halstead@austin.utexas.edu .
