Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 11-19-08 and Friday, 11-21-08. If you have any information pertaining to any of these cases or other criminal or suspicious activity, please contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A Giant Bolder, not a rock just the brand of the bike, was stolen from the bike racks located north of the main entrance to the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 11-19-08, between 9:00 PM and 11:40 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: An Apple laptop computer and an Apple IPod were reported stolen from an unsecured second floor study lounge after the former owners left their property unattended. Loss value combined: $1,800.00. Occurred on: 11-19-08, between 9:15 PM and 9:20 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported the theft of her State issued ID card, and two credit cards. During the investigation, the officer learned that the victim was unsure where or when her property was stolen. As the investigation continued, the officer learned that there had been an unauthorized charge made on one of the stolen credit cards. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: Unknown. MUSIC RECITAL HALL, 2405 Trinity Theft: A Panasonic camcorder and a Canon digital camera were left unattended near a stage and were discovered by a UT student, who then turned both items into a departmental lost and found collection point. The original owner of the property soon discovered that his property was no longer in the lost and found collection point. Loss value: $390.00. Occurred on: 11-10-08 Crime Prevention Tip: There are a number of different departments with a lost and found collection point. As a department, consider developing a lost and found policy that requires a person to sign in and sign out any property that is turned in. This will create an administrative trail in case any turned in property turns up missing. SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORKS, 1925 San Jacinto Blvd Theft: A UT staff discovered an Apple iMac computer had been stolen from an unsecured 1st floor study lounge. Loss value: $1,200.00. Occurred between: 11-13-08, and 11-19-08. 100 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Theft: A silver Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the southwest side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $400.00. Occurred on: 11-20-08, between 6:30 PM and 10:30 PM. 1700 BLOCK RED RIVER Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject attempted to enter into the Frank Erwin Center through a secured door. When the door failed to open the subject got frustrated and staggered off. During the investigation, the officers located the subject as she was staggering across a busy street, in front of several on coming vehicles. As the investigation continued, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The non-UT subject informed the officers that she had consumed only one drink the entire night. The officers noted that the subject's were bloodshot and watery. The subject did not know where she was or how she got there. The officers took the subject into custody for Public Intoxication and transported her to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-21-08, at 1:52 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 34 alarm calls, 3 unsecured door reports, 1 stuck elevator, and 2 suspicious activity reports between 11-19-08 and 11-21-08.
