Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday. 11/24/08 and Tuesday, 11/25/08. Holiday Break Tips Before each of you head off to enjoy your well deserved break, take a few seconds to consider the security of the property you will be leaving behind. Your bicycle is a nice target for holiday shopping thieves. To maximize the protection of your bicycle this weekend, take it inside. Do not leave it at the bicycle rack or on the porch. Take it inside – to further enhance the security, take your bicycle inside and secure your bicycle locks to it. Speaking of your dorm room or apartment, invest a moment to secure your valuables inside a locking trunk, drawer or closet. For that matter, take the most valuable of your items with you. Faculty and Staff – you have responsibilities too; not only for your personal property on campus but also for your department's property. Before you leave for the break, check and double check the locks on the doors and windows, secure valuable items inside locked cabinets, test your alarms and make sure they are set-up before you leave. Also take a minute to send an e-mail out to your faculty, staff and student members to remind them of the altered building hours and to notify UTPD in the event of a false alarm. If we all work together, the campus should be in just as good of shape next Monday as it is today. BRAZOS GARAGE, 200 East MLK Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Possession of Marijuana: Five UT students were found sitting in a recessed area located on the south side of the garage. One of the students was holding a small glass pipe that contained burned marijuana residue. I say he was viewed very closely as he came within a foot of striking a patrol vehicle. Before being stopped, the student drove through a second stop sign controlled intersection. When stopped, the student stated he knew he had “run some stop signs.” Occurred on 11/25/08 at 2:11 a.m. Oops! My brain was either on my Grandma's stuffing or my brain actually was stuffing yesterday. I'm not sure how the first sentence in yesterday's entry came out the way it did (see below), but the sentence was meant to say “A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was reported as sitting with her head down while on the steps located on the north side of the dormitory.” Yesterday's Entry: ROBERTS HALL DORMITORY, 303 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was reported as sitting with her head down while on the steps locate don't he north side of the dormitory.
