Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 11-26-08 and Monday, 12-01-08. ATT&T CONFERENCE CENTER, 1900 University Ave Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered inside the building by hotel staff. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject was a former employee who had been asked to leave. The officer issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him from the property. Occurred on: 11-27-08, at 4:18 PM. CAROTHERS DORMITORY, 2501 Whitis Ave Theft: A black and silver Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. During the investigation, the officer learned that the owner had a U shaped lock attached to his bicycle, but had failed to use it. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred between: 11-27-08 and 11-29-08. CLAUDIA TAYLOR JOHNSON, 210 West 6th Street Public Intoxication (2 Counts): A UT staff member observed two non-UT subjects fighting in the ally behind the building. After fighting with each other, both subjects sat down and began smoking cigarettes. Upon the arrival of the police officers, both subjects attempted to walk away. But had it not been for the proper placement of an exterior wall, both subjects would have fallen as they stood up. During the investigation, the officers detected strong odors of alcohol on both non-UT subjects. Neither subject knew where they were. The officers took both subjects into custody for Public Intoxication and both were transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-30-08, at 6:36 PM. DKR- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Public Intoxication: A UT police officer discovered two UT students arguing just outside section 25. The officer observed the male student get upset and hit a metal railing with his fist then walk away. Both students were stopped and during the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the male student's breath. The student immediately handed the officer his wallet and informed the officer that he was 21 and that he could drink, since he was 21. The officer noted that the subject's eyes were bloodshot and glassy. The subject attempted to communicate using a "mush mouth" dialect with the officer. Due to the subject behavior towards the other student, not because he was 21, the officer determined that the subject was intoxicated and took the subject into custody for Public Intoxication. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-27-08, at 8:00 PM. DKR- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Public Intoxication: A UT police officer observed a subject entering into the stadium that appeared to be ill. As the investigation continued, the officer learned that the subject was intoxicated, but was with a sober family member. A short time later, officers again came into contact with the non-UT subject and noticed her intoxication level was worse. Austin EMS was contacted and the subject was transported to a local area hospital. Occurred on: 11-27-08, at 7:10 PM. DKR- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Failure to Identify: A UT student was stopped after attempting to enter into the stadium while using another UT student's ID. During the investigation, the officer showed the subject that the ID he attempted to use was not his since the picture or other predominate features did not match. While talking to the subject the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and requested his driver's license. The subject gave the officer several versions of his name and date of birth. Once the officer identified the subject, he was escorted to the Dean of Students and was issued two field release citations for Failure to Identify and Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 11-27-08, at 7:25 PM. DKR- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Possession of More than One Valid Driver's License: A UT police officer observed a subject staggering as he entered into the stadium. During the investigation, the officer asked the subject for his ID. The subject informed the officer that he did not have it on him. A second officer, standing behind the subject asked the subject to remove his wallet from his pants pocket. As the investigation continued, the officer learned that the subject was under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming alcohol. While the officer was issuing the subject a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, the second officer asked the subject if he could look through his wallet. The subject allowed the officer to look. The officer discovered a second valid Texas driver's license that was issued to another person. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-27-08, at 7:00 PM. DKR- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Robbery: Several UT staff members, faculty, students, and Texas Ex's discovered a fraction of a percentage point had been taken and was transported across state lines. The percentage point was discovered north of the Red River at the campus of another Big 12 South University. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered inside the building by a UT staff member. The subject informed the staff member that he was there to meet a female that he had met while down town. During the investigation, the officers issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him from the building. Occurred on: 11-29-08, at 7:05 AM. LITTLEFIELD HOME, 302 West 24th Street Possession of Marijuana: A UT police officer observed a subject standing next to the rear entrance to the building. As soon as the subject saw the officer, he attempted to leave. During the investigation, the officer asked the subject if he had anything in his possession that the officer needed to know about. The subject stated, "Yes" and removed a clear plastic baggie containing marijuana. The subject was taken into custody for Possession of Marijuana and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-28-08, at 9:17 AM. PARKING LOT 37, 2200 Red River Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out in the bed of a truck. The subject's skin was cold and clammy. Austin EMS was notified and attempted to treat the subject at the scene. The subject was transported to a local area hospital. During the investigation, the officers learned that the subject was celebrating his birthday and had started drinking at 9:00 AM. By 4:00 PM the subject was showing signs of intoxication. At 5:00 PM the subject had passed out, by 5:30 PM he was unresponsive and his friends notified the police. Occurred on: 11-27-08, at 5:40 PM. PARKING LOT 110, 2200 Comal Suspicious Person: A non-UT subject was approached by an unknown subject who asked the non-UT subject for a piece of turkey. When the unknown subject was informed that there wasn't any turkey left, the subject then asked for money. The subject became very upset when his second request was denied. During the investigation, the officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the unknown subject. The unknown subject was described as: Black male, late 30's, 5'-11", thin build. Subject was last seen wearing a wig of long flowing hair and a jean jacket. Occurred on: 11-29-08, at 5:52 PM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Criminal Trespass / Criminal Trespass Warning (4 Counts) / Assist Outside Agency: A UT police officer discovered four non-UT subjects drinking alcohol inside the northwest stairwell. During the investigation the officer learned that one of the subjects had received a previous Criminal Trespass Warning. A second subject had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant. Both subjects were taken into custody and were transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, all four subjects were issued written Criminal Trespass Warning for the area. Occurred on: 11-28-08, at 5:35 PM. TAYLOR HALL, #8 East Mall Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered inside a student lounge and had become upset with a UT staff member who had asked him from his UT ID. During the investigation, the officer located the subject and soon learned that the subject was not longer employed at UT even though he claimed to still be employed. As the investigation continued, the officer soon discovered that the subject had an outstanding outside agency felony warrant. The subject was taken into custody for the warrant and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 11-27-08, at 11:15 AM. TRINITY PARKING GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed approaching individuals, in an attempt to sell them tickets to a sporting event. During the investigation, the subject was located near the exit of the garage. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 11-30-08, at 1:32 PM. UNIVERSITY TEACHING CENTER, 105 West 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning (2 Counts): Two non-UT subjects were discovered camping on the 3rd floor. During the investigation, both subjects informed the officer that they were in town for the Texas A&M football game and needed a place to sleep. Both subjects were issued written Criminal Trespass Warnings and were escorted from the area. Occurred on: 11-28-08, at 3:51 AM. 2100 BLOCK UNIVERSITY AVE Evading Arrest or Detention: A Non-UT subject removed an official traffic control device and placed it on top of his head to wear as a party hat. An officer working traffic control in that area observed what the subject was doing and told him to put the traffic cone back. The subject took off running. After a short ch ase the subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-27-08, at 7:30 PM. 2200 BLOCK LEONA Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT police officer observed several vehicles being directed on property owned by the University to park. The officer talked to one of the drivers and learned that he had paid to park. The driver pointed to a non-UT subject standing in the roadway as the person he had paid. As the investigation continued, the officer identified the subject who was selling parking spaces. The subject denied selling parking spaces she stated she was selling protection. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 11-27-08, at 5:30 PM. 2300 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the sidewalk. As the officers approached the subject, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's person. After several attempts the officers were able to wake the subject. The officers asked the subject what he was doing on the sidewalk. The subject looked at the officer and replied "Sleeping." The officers noted that the subject could not maintain his balance as he attempted to stand. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-27-08, at 6:10 PM. 2300 BLOCK TRINITY Assist Outside Agency: A vehicle was observed traveling the wrong way on a posted one-way street. During the traffic investigation, the officer soon learned that the UT student had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody for the outstanding outside agency warrant. Occurred on: 11-29-08, at 10:30 PM. 2500 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Leaving the Scene Collision: A Travis County Deputy heard a loud noise of a collision and witnessed a red Ford truck strike a legally parked and unattended vehicle. The deputy attempted to stop the driver of the truck by running after the truck. The driver's response to the deputy's commands was to drive faster. Loss unknown at this time. Occurred on: 11-27-08, at 11:10 PM. 2600 BLOCK GUADALUPE Possession of More that One Valid Driver's License / Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor / Possession of a Fictitious Driver's License: A white Honda was observed traveling without it's headlamps turned on. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor on alcohol on the driver's breath. As the non-UT subject was handing the officer his driver's license and proof of insurance, the officer noticed the driver attempting to conceal a second DL. As the investigation continued, the officer soon learned that the driver was under the legal age of 21 but the second DL stated the driver was over the legal age to be in possession of alcohol. As the driver was exiting his vehicle, the officer noticed an open 12 pack of cold beer behind the driver's seat. During a search of the vehicle the officer located a third State issued driver's license that was not issued to the subject. The officer took the subject into custody for Possession of More that One Valid Driver's License / Possession of a Fictitious Driver's License / Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-29-08, at 2:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 69 alarm calls, 5 unsecured door reports, 7 lighting surveys, 1 collision investigation, 4 medical emergency assists, 4 public assist requests and 5 suspicious activity report between 11-27-08 and 12-01-08.
