Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 12/05/08 and Tuesday, 12/09/08. BRAZOS GARAGE, 200 East martin Luther King Jr. Blvd Leaving the Scene Collision: An unknown, white vehicle struck the left rear quarter panel of a red 2006 Pontiac while the Pontiac was parked and unattended. The paint that was transferred from the striking vehicle to the struck vehicle suggests the striking vehicle was white in color. The driver of the striking vehicle left the scene without leaving any driver information. Repair cost: $500.00. Occurred on 12/06/08 between 4:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. INDOOR PRACTICE FACILITY, 2401 Red river Criminal Mischief: An unknown person(s) used a 20 foot long pole to puncture a hole in the north wall of the indoor practice facility. The pole was left on scene and in the hole. Repair cost: $2,000.00. Occurred between 12/05/08 and 12/06/08 at 2:34 p.m. JESTER CENTER ACADEMIC, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A Toshiba laptop computer and a Dell laptop computer were stolen from a 3rd floor office. Loss value: $4,150.00. Occurred between 11/26/08 and 12/05/08 at 9:00 a.m. JESTER CENTER ACADEMIC, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A white Apple i-Book G3 laptop computer that ”smells stinky,” a silver Apple MacBook Pro laptop computer, a white Apple MacBook laptop computer, a Sony video camera, two portable computer hard drives and a battery charger for the video camera were stolen from n unsecured cabinet located inside a 1st floor office. Loss value: $6,000.00. Occurred between 11/15/08 and 12/08/08 at 1:56 p.m. MARY E. GEARING HALL, 200 West 24th Street Theft: A black backpack containing a Texas Instruments calculator was stolen when it was left inside an unsecure 1st floor classroom while the owner attended a one-day camp. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on 12/06/08 between 7:00 a.m. and 2:53 p.m. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as doing tricks on a skateboard on the north plaza of the library. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 12/08/08 at 10:03 a.m. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A textbook was stolen from a 2nd floor men's restroom. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on 12/08/08 between 7:55 p.m. and 8:25 p.m. ROBERT A. WELCH HALL, 105 East 24th Street Theft: A textbook was stolen after it was left inside a 1st floor women's restroom. Loss value: $125.00. Occurred on 12/02/08 between 12:40 p.m. and 12:50 p.m. SAN ANTONIO GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was found sleeping under a stairwell for the garage. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 12/06/08 at 4:0 5 p.m. SAN JACINTO GARAGE, 2401 San Jacinto Theft: A black and grey colored Arai motorcycle helmet and a pair of blue and black Alpine riding gloves were stolen while the gloves were left inside the helmet that was attached by the chin strap to parked Kawasaki Motorcycle. Loss value: $440.00. Occurred on 12/05/08 between 12:30 p.m. and 5:42 p.m. SAN JACINTO GARAGE, 2401 San Jacinto Theft: A red Shoei motorcycle helmet was stolen while it was secured with a strap to a parked red moped. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred on 12/05/08 between 8:30 a.m. and 7:13 p.m. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was found sleeping at a bench on the 2nd floor of the building. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 12/07/08 at 12:50 a.m. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning / Criminal Trespass / Assist Outside Agency: Two non-UT subjects were stopped after being involved in a verbal argument concerning the ownership of one of the subject's bags. The subject who was in possession of the bag was found to have previously been issued a written criminal trespass warning. That same subject was also found to have two outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for camping in a public place. That subject did not need to find a place to camp for the night as he was provided with accommodations. The other subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 12/06/08 at 10:00 p.m. 2300 Guadalupe Leaving the Scene Collision: A UT student, who was driving a blue Chevrolet Tahoe struck the left side of a white truck that was parked and unattended. The student drove the Tahoe form the scene without leaving driver information. Witnesses provided the license plate number of the striking vehicle. Repair cost: unknown at this time. Occurred on 12/05/08 at 5:20 p.m. 200 West 6th Street Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was found sleeping on an exterior bench. The subject was difficult to wake-up. Once the subject was awake he was not aware of his location, had poor balance and offered up his credit card when asked for his driver's license. When asked how much he had to drink, the subject simply replied, “a lot.” The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a danger to himself and his credit report as he would dole out his credit card for no apparent reason. Occurred on 12/08/08 at 1:57 a.m. 200 East 24th Street Leaving the Scene Collision: The left rear quarter panel of a silver colored 2004 Toyota was struck by an unknown vehicle. The driver of the striking vehicle left the scene without leaving driver information. Repair cost: $1,000.00. Occurred on 12/08/08 between 12:15 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. 300 East 24th Street Consumption of Alcohol by Minor /Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A red 2009 Ford F-150 pick-up truck was stopped for driving at night without its headlamps turned on. The vehicle was occupied by four UT students, three of which were under the age of 21. A flask and several unopened cans of beer were found inside the vehicle. Two of the passengers were issued citations for the consumption of alcohol by a minor and the third was issued a citation for the possession of alcohol by a minor. Occurred on 12/17/08 at 2:29 a.m. 21st Street and San Jacinto Theft / Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was stopped after being observed carrying a large construction site safety traffic sign on a pole. The subject was not aware of his location, even though he was standing facing the 21st Street and San Jacinto Street intersection sign. The subject made several statements as to his destination and reason for being in possession of the street sign. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a danger to others. Occurred on 12/17/08 at 3:17 p.m. 24th Street and San Jacinto Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 counts): Two UT students, who were both under the age of 21, were found engaged in an argument that led to one of the two grabbing the other. The student who was grabbed did not wish to file charges for simple assault. Both students were found to have consumed alcoholic beverages. Occurred on 12/06/08 at 2:01 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 69 alarm calls, 16 unsecured door reports, 6 public assist requests, 12 lighting surveys, 2 EMS assists, 1 water leak, 2 found property report, 1 lost property report, 2 suspicious odor reports and 3 suspicious activity reports between 12/04/08 and 12/09/08. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
