Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 12-16-08 and Thursday, 12-18-08. ARNO NOWOTNEY BUILDING, 709 East Martin Luther King Blvd Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject hanging around the exterior of the building. During the investigation, the officers located the subject and learned that the subject had intended to pick up his pay check from ANB. When the subject learned that he had been caught in a lie, he changed his story. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 12-16-08, at 6:29 PM. ASHBELL SMITH HALL, 201 West 7th Street Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed exiting a vehicle and walking towards the plaza. The subject was found to be sobbing as she was talking to another non-UT subject. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the sobbing subject's breath. The officer learned that the subject was refusing to go home with the second subject and wanted to sleep on the plaza. During the investigation the officer noted several signs of intoxication and took the subject into custody for Public Intoxication. Occurred on: 12-17-08, at 1:40 AM. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 2702 Red River Theft: A non-UT subject reported the theft of $1,177.00 in US currency from a third level concession stand. During the investigation, the officer learned the money had been inside a closed bank bag, which had been left unsecured and unattended. Loss value: $1,177.00. Occurred on: 12-13-08, between 1:30 PM and 2:15 PM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A "hot pink" leather wallet containing several credit cards and the personal identification of the former owner was taken from a fifth floor study table after being left unattended. Loss value: $5.00. Occurred on: 12-14-08. WEST MALL BUILDING, # 3 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: Several UT staff members observed a non-UT subject enter into the West Mall Building carrying several bags. The subject put the bags down, and began changing his clothes. During the investigation, the officers located the subject and issued him a written Criminal Trespass Warning. The subject was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 12-17-08, at 12:52 PM. 100 BLOCK WEST 24th STREET Theft: A UT student reported the theft of her front tire to her bicycle. Loss value: $5.00. Occurred on: 12-17-08, between 10:00 AM and 10:00 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: This type of case illustrates the necessity of incorporating a two-lock locking system. The sad part of this story is that there is a second victim. This victim secured their property to the bike rack by securing the tire only. 300 BLOCK DEAN KEETON DR. Assist Outside Agency: A UT police officer located an occupied vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle that was wanted by the Austin Police Department is a suspected robbery. The driver and passenger were taken into custody. Both subjects were released to the Austin Police Department for further investigation. Occurred on: 12-17-08, at 3:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 17 alarm calls, 13 unsecured door reports, 2 welfare concern reports, and 3 suspicious activity reports between 12-16-08 and 12-18-08.
