Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 12/18/08 and Friday, 12/19/08. You will hear from us in the new year – until then, Be Safe! ERNEST COCKRELL JR. HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as loitering on a 1st floor sofa. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 12/19/08 at 12:06 a.m. GOLDSMITH HALL, #5 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as walking around the fourth floor asking for directions to the restroom. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 12/18/08 at 4:40 p.m. MAIN BUILDING, #1 South Mall Theft: Two Apple G-4 laptop computers were stolen from a 2nd floor office. During the timeframe of the theft, the office had been left unsecured several times as the office employees attended meetings. Loss value: $600.00. Occurred between 12/16/08 at 5:00 p.m. and 12/18/08 at 9:00 a.m. 2600 Speedway Driving While Intoxicated / Failure to Display Driver's License: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student pull his maroon Honda Accord to the side of the road. The officer observed the student for sometime as the student simply sat in the vehicle with the engine running. The officer initiated a welfare check of the student and quickly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage. The student handed the officer his UT ID card and a debit card when asked for his driver's license and insurance. The student demonstrated several classic signs of intoxication; including several apologies for driving while intoxicated. The field sobriety test proved the student had reasons for being apologetic. Occurred on 12/18/08 at 4:56 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 21 alarm calls, 8 unsecured door reports and 1 suspicious noise report between 12/18/08 and 12/19/08. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
