Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 01/08/09 and Friday, 01/09/09. PARKING LOT 110, 2200 Comal Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A non-UT subject was reported as soliciting money donations from pedestrians. The subject was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant from the Austin Municipal Court. The subject was also found to be in possession of a small glass tube the design of which made it an item commonly used to smoke an illicit substance. In addition to other law enforcement actions taken, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 01/08/09 at 5:33 p.m. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Theft: A new and unopened video game was stolen when it was left in an unsecured basement level office. The owner of the video game left the office to wash her hands and was gone for less than a minute. A co-worker of the victim suggested she check local trashcans as it is common practice for thieves to place stolen items in trashcans. In such cases, the thief would return at a later time to collect the stolen item. The victim checked the trashcan outside of her office door and discovered the video game at the bottom of the can under a “few pieces of garbage.” Recovered value: $50.00. Occurred on 01/08/09 around 12:10 p.m. 2600 Whitis Driving While Intoxicated with an Open Container of Alcohol (enhanced criminal charge): A non-UT subject was stopped for making an improper turn and speeding while driving a 2002 Toyota Camry 4-door vehicle. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was deemed to have been driving while intoxicated. An open container of alcohol was found inside the subject's vehicle. Occurred on 01/09/09 at 2:39 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 21 alarm calls, 2 unsecured door reports, 1 public assist, 1 suspicious activity, 1 welfare concern and 1 collision between 01/08/09 and 01/09/09. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
