I hope that everyone enjoyed their holiday break. After reading all of the police reports today I can safely say that the thieves are glad that you are back as well. As you can see there were a number of bicycles that were reported stolen over the holidays were the owner simply used a U-shaped lock. U-shaped locks for the most part accomplish your desired goal of securing your property. Given enough time, these can be defeated. This is one of the many reasons our department has recommended a two-lock locking system. A good U-shaped lock and a thick self-locking cable lock. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 74 alarm calls, 26 unsecured door reports, 1 collision, 4 suspicious activity reports, and 9 public assist between 01-16-09 and 01-20-09. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime. Your call may help solve or prevent a crime. Campus Watch comments should be directed to Officer Darrell Halstead at 512-232-9634 or via e-mail to Darrell.halstead@austin.utexas.edu .
