Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 01-22-09 Friday, 01-23-09. BURDINE HALL, 2505 University Ave Theft: A UT student reported the theft of his blue Trek mountain bicycle from the bike racks located on the west side of the building. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject had secured his property with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $500.00 for the bicycle, $10.00 for the lock. Occurred on: 1-22-09, between 12:01 PM, and 5:00 PM. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Failure to Identify / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer observed a UT student stumbling between her navigational beacons as she attempted to walk in a straight line. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student's breath and asked to see her driver's license. As the investigation continued the officer soon discovered the student had given him a false date of birth. The student was taken into custody for Failure to Identify. During a search of the subject's purse the officer discovered a large plastic flask that contained alcohol. After learning the student true identity, it was not hard for the officer to figure out that the student was under the legal age of 21 to be in possession of alcohol. The subject was transported to Central Booking and charged with Failure to Identify / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 1-22-09, at 10:06 PM. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Assault by Contact: A UT police officer reported there was a disturbance in the floor seating during the concert at the FEC. During the investigation, the officer learned two non-UT subjects were enjoying the concert and enjoying each others company. A third non-UT subject was offended by the couple's public displays of affection that she slapped the first victim face. When confronted, the suspect, proceeded to slap the second victim. The first victim grabbed the second victim and sought out a police officer. The suspect was ejected from the event with charges being filed. Occurred on: 1-22-09 at 10:25 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: No truer words have ever been spoken or song. "I can make you pick a fight with somebody twice your size." Yes the first victim was twice the size of the suspect, but that did not deter the assault. In the first case the suspect thought she could lie. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A black Giant mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred between: 1-19-09 and 1-22-09. WEST MALL, 2400 Guadalupe Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT police officer observed a non-UT subject attempting to sell magazines to a UT student. During the investigation, the officer issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him off campus. Occurred on: 1-22-09, at 6:25 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 11 alarm calls, 5 unsecured door reports, 2 suspicious activity reports, 1 fire call, 1 medical emergency call, and 3 public assist between 01-22-09 and 01-23-09.
