Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 02/04/09 and Thursday, 02/05/09. ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE The University of Texas Police Department will be hosting the 6th Citizen's Police Academy Class. The CPA will be held every Monday night beginning February 23, 2009 (There will be no class during Spring Break Week). The academy will end April 13, 2009 with a graduation ceremony. HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Criminal Trespass Warning: While checking the building due to recent reports of a subject soliciting money from students, UT Police Officers observed a subject matching the description of the solicitor walking around the 1st floor. The non-UT subject had left his backpack, pillow and blanket in the building's library. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning citation and escorted form the building. Occurred on 02/04/09 at 2:37 p.m. ERNEST COCKRELL JR. HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Theft / Credit Card Abuse: A UT student reported his wallet and contents as being stolen. The student last knew he had his wallet at an eatery located at the Littlefield Dormitory. The student left the eatery and walked to Ernest Cockrell Jr. Hall where he left his property on a table. The student discovered his wallet missing after he went to another eatery nearly 7 hours later. While cancelling his debit card, he discovered an unknown person had made an unauthorized $100.00 withdrawal. Occurred on 02/04/09 between 3:40 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. MAIN BUILDING, #1 South Mall Criminal Mischief: Red and black chalk were used to write words on the exterior steps of the building and on the sidewalk on the West Mall. Removal cost: $25.00. Discovered on 02/04/09 at 1:01 p.m. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Disorderly Conduct / Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject entered the library's men's restroom fully clad in t-shirt and blue jeans. The subject emerged from the restroom wearing the t-shirt and carrying the remainder of his clothes. After a few “whoops!” and circular waving of one of his arms, the subject fled the building on foot. When located on the north side of the library, the subject stated he thought it would be “funny” to run around the library without his pants. The subject was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages, but was not under the influence to the point he was a danger to himself or others – he was only a danger to his common sense; or at least his fashion sense. The “fun” ended with the issuance of a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 02/05/09 at 3:01 a.m. SPEEDWAY GARAGE, 105 East 27th Street Leaving the Scene Collision: The left front bumper of a green Honda Civic was struck while the Honda was parked on the inside the garage. The driver of the striking vehicle left the scene without leaving driver information. Repair cost: $3,000.00. Occurred on 02/04/09 between 7:30 a.m. and 6:40 p.m. 2500 Robert Dedman Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed walking with a gait that was described as “not smooth.” The subject was stopped shortly after falling off a curb into the roadway. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a danger to himself. Occurred on 02/15/09 at 3:15 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 20 alarm calls, 3 unsecured door reports, 2 lighting surveys, 1 trashcan fire, 1 found property report, 3 collisions, 1 suspicious person report and 2 medical emergency calls between 02/04/09, and 02/05/09. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
