Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 02-06-09 and Monday, 02-09-09. ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE The University of Texas Police Department will be hosting the 6th Citizen's Police Academy Class. The CPA will be held every Monday night beginning February 23, 2009 (There will be no class during Spring Break Week). The academy will end April 13, 2009 with a graduation ceremony. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning (3 Counts): A UT staff member responded to a noise complaint inside a first floor dormitory room. The staff member discovered three unauthorized subjects in the room. All three non-UT subjects refused to identify themselves to the staff member and were escorted from the building. The staff member soon discovered all three subjects had re-entered the building. During the investigation, the officers issued all three subject written Criminal Trespass Warnings and were escorted from the area by the police. Occurred on: 2-08-09, at 2:30 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject wondering through a restricted area. The staff member asked if the subject needed any help. The subject stated yes, "Psychiatric help." The staff member became very concerned and notified the police. During the investigation, the subject informed the officers that he was just kidding. The officers informed the subject that he was inside a restricted area and issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him from the area. The officers were not kidding. Occurred on: 2-07-09, at 11:25 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Staff member discovered the odor of burning marijuana emanating from a 7th floor dormitory room. Upon the arrival of the officers, the officers also detected a very strong odor of burning marijuana coming from the same 7th floor dorm room. During the investigation, the officers noticed the odor became stronger when the door was opened. Inside the room, officers discovered four UT students sitting around. The officers identified the room resident who stated that he and his roommate did not share their drugs. During a search of the room the officers located a marijuana grinder, several plastic baggies, rolling papers and a tin can, all of which contained marijuana remnants. During the search, the officers located several opened bottles of beer. The resident was issued two field release citations for the Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 2-09-09, at 12:01 AM. LIVING LEARNING CENTER, 2610 Whitis Ave Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: UT police officers responded to the Living Learning Center on a reported disturbance. Upon arrival the officers discovered several UT students arguing centered around a female. As the officers approached the student, one student attempted to discard a cup into a trashcan. The officers soon learned that the subject was discarding a cup that contained alcohol and that the student was under the legal age of 21. The officers also discovered the other student who had been arguing had a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath as well. Again the officers learned that this subject was also under the legal age of 21. Both students were issued a field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 2-08-09, at 6:23 AM. PARKING LOT 117, 1900 Comal Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student discovered the key entryway to his Ford truck had been damaged. After inventorying his vehicle, the student discovered his Apple IPod had been stolen. Loss value: $450.00. Occurred on 2-07-09, between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. WELCH HALL, 105 East 24th Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was seen ripping fliers down and spitting on the floor. During the investigation, the officers issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted from the building. Occurred on: 2-07-09, at 3:56 PM. 100 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): UT police officers responded to the north side of PCL on a report of two females designing and utilizing an outdoor restroom next to a pizza stand. During the investigation, the officers soon discovered both students were both under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming alcohol at two local business located downtown. Both students were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 2-06-09, at 2:55 AM. 200 BLOCK MARTIN LUTHER KING Driving While Intoxicated: A green Honda was observed stopped at a standing red light. The driver of the vehicle had not turned on the vehicle's headlamps. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver did not respond, not even to the siren blasts. The driver did stop his vehicle when he drove on top of the center median. During the traffic investigation, the non-UT driver stated that he had not been drinking even though the officer detected the odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer noted that the subject's pupils were larger than normal. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the subject. The subject displayed several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-07-09, at 3:10 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (3 Counts): A red Toyota was observed committing several traffic violations. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver, a UT student, was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. Her vehicle was impounded. During the investigation, the officers identified the passengers inside the vehicle and determined the passengers were also under the legal age of 21 and had also been consuming alcohol. All three passengers were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 2-07-09, at 3:20 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student reported another UT student appeared to be intoxicated on mushrooms. During the investigation, the officer located the intoxicated student starring into space. The subject did not respond to the officer's question and continued to stare off with a dazed and confused expression. Due to the student's unresponsiveness Austin EMS was notified. EMS transported the subject to a local area hospital for treatment. Charges are pending. Occurred on: 2-07-09, at 1:03 AM. 700 BLOCK COLORADO Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out inside a grey Nissan. When the subject was awakened, he informed the officer that he was ok to drive home. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject had consumed 5 mixed drinks. The officer noted there was a strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. And his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-07-09, at 3:49 AM. 2600 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A UT police officer observed three UT students walking down the street. The student in the middle was having a very difficult time maintaining his balance and required the assistance of the other two students to keep from falling down. During the investigation, the officer learned that two of the students had been drinking a private party and had contacted to the third student to help them get home. The officers discovered all three students were under the legal age of 21 and that two had been consuming adult beverages. Two UT students were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 2-08-09, at 3:15 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 56 alarm calls, 2 found property reports, 2 suspicious activity reports,1 found property report and 2 welfare concern calls between 02/05/09, and 02/06/09.
