Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 02/10/09 and Wednesday, 02/11/09. ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE The University of Texas Police Department will be hosting the 6th Citizen's Police Academy Class. The CPA will be held every Monday night beginning February 23, 2009 (There will be no class during Spring Break Week). The academy will end April 13, 2009 with a graduation ceremony. INTERCOLLEGIATE ROWING BOAT HOUSE, 300 Hearn Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered an unknown subject had used a cutting tool to damage the perimeter fence surrounding the rowing complex. Loss value: $150.00. Discovered on: 2-10-09 at 5:51 PM. PARKING LOT 104, 1900 North IH-35 Leaving the Scene Collision: An unknown vehicle struck the right quarter panel of a legally parked Volvo then left the area. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 2-10-09, between 9:00 AM and 4:45 PM. 1900 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed staggering along the sidewalk and appeared to be lost and confused. The subject saw the police officer and changed his direction of travel and entered Clark Field. The subject was seen walking the track and the officer waited until the subject came back around. During the investigation, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol the subject's breath and noted his slurred speech. The officer asked the subject if he had been drinking. The subject replied he had "enough." The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Once at Central Booking the subject asked if his arrest would affect his chances in becoming an Austin Police Officer. Occurred on: 2-11-09 at 3:29 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: More and more companies are doing back ground checks on perspective employees. With some companies, they will disqualify an applicant based on drug or alcohol issues. Will his arrest affect his chance at obtaining his dream job?…Time will tell. 2600 Speedway Harassment / Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT student reported a non-UT subject was following her around campus and had been seen parked near her apartment. During the investigation, the officer located the subject near CPE. The subject stated he was on his way to class and had not been following anyone. As the investigation continued, the subject changed his story and admitted he had been following the student when the officer learned that several reports had been made to the Austin Police Department. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 2-10-09, at 12:34 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: The student in this case did a very good job in being aware of what was going on around her and by notifying the police when she suspected she was being followed. There are several things that a person can do if they suspect that they are being followed, first go to the last place you felt safe and notify the police. If you can not go there, go to the first business you see and have the clerk or store manager notify the police for you. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 29 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity reports, 1 car fire, 1 vehicle collision), 2 unsecured door reports, 1 medical emergency, 1 report of roadway flooding due to heavy rain and 1 public assist between 02/10/09, and 02/11/09.
