Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 03-30-09 and Tuesday, 03-31-09. *****New Resource***** Recently, The UT Student Government developed a new web page to serve as a resource for a variety of safety, security, health and wellness resources for The University of Texas. The webpage is called Be Safe, Texas. This website provides a litany of information about services offered to UT faculty, staff and students. Please take the time to visit this new website to see what resources are available to you. Be Safe, Texas can be found at http://www.utexas.edu/besafe/ CALHOUN HALL, #4 South Hall Harassment: A UT staff member reported receiving harassing and unwanted emails from a non-UT subject. The non-UT subject attempted to obtain personal information about the staff member's personal life. Occurred on: 3-30-09, at 1:40 PM. COLORADO APARTMENTS, 2501 Lake Austin Blvd. Suspicious Activity: A UT student heard a knock at her apartment door then heard an unknown subject attempt to push her secured apartment door open. The student looked through her door viewer and did not see anyone standing there. The student contacted the police without opening the door. During the investigation, the officers searched the area with negative results. Occurred on: 3-30-09, at 10:07 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: I have a question for everyone, Who would have opened their door without looking through the door viewer first? This student did a great job by not opening the door. When you are not expecting anyone, and there is an unexpected knock at the door, look through the door viewer first to see who is there. In addition, this case also illustrates the need to have your doors locked, even when you are there. You never know. PARKING LOT 41, 2200 Block Red River Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student discovered the passenger's window of a green Ford truck and the driver's side window of a blue Chevy truck broken. The reporting person observed an unknown subject running from both vehicles carrying an arm's load of property. As the investigation continued, the owners of the vehicles were notified. The owner of the Ford truck discovered his JVC stereo and GPS system had been taken. The owner of the blue Chevy truck stated his JVC stereo system had been stolen. The unknown subject entered a silver Toyota and was last seen travelling north on Red River. The unknown subject was described as a black male, stocky, and was last seen wearing a red Cleveland Indians ball cap. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 3-30-09, at 5:08 PM. 100 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Graffiti: A word written in black spray paint was discovered on a street sign. Loss value: $35.00. Discovered on: 3-31-09, at 12:11 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 21 alarm calls, 2 call box alarms, 5 unsecured door reports, 2 public assist requests, 2 welfare concern reports, 2 medical emergencies,1 suspicious person report between 03-30-09 and 03-31-09.
