Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 04/20/09 and Tuesday, 04/21/09. ****Urban Bicycling Classes**** The UT Orange Bike Program offers free Urban Bicycling Classes throughout the course of regular semesters. The last class of this semester will be on Monday April 27, 2009 from 6 to 7 pm in Garrison 1.126. Class instructors are certified by the League of American Bicyclists. For more information about how this class can make you a safer cyclist, visit http://www.utenvironment.org/ CLARK FIELD, 1900 San Jacinto Theft: A black leather wallet containing credit cards, a debit card, identification cards and a gift card was stolen when it was left on the stairs leading from the field to Jester Circle Drive. Loss value: $30.00. Occurred on 04/20/09 between 6:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. GEORGE I. SANCHEZ BUILDING, 1912 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was reported as sleeping on a 1st floor window ledge located on the west side of the building. The sleeping subject had evidence of control issues on the front of his pants. The subject was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for crossing against the light. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 04/20/09 at 6:55 a.m. JESTER CENTER EAST, 203 East 21st Street Theft: A black Haro bicycle was stolen when it was “secured” with a ¼ inch cable lock to a bicycle rack located on the west side of the dormitory. Loss value: $365.00. Occurred between 04/16/09 at 1:15 p.m. and 04/20/09 at 12 noon. PARKING LOT 80, 1900 Red River Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was found in a “reclined” position inside his black Ford sport utility vehicle. The subject was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for a traffic violation. Occurred on 04/20/09 11:17 a.m. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Graffiti: Various permanent markers were used to draw images and write words on the walls of a 2nd floor men's restroom. Removal cost: $40.00. Occurred between 04/16/09 and 04/20/09. WOOLDRIDGE HALL, 600 West 24th Street Theft: A white Apple Macbook laptop computer was stolen when it was left on a desk inside an unsecured 1st floor office. Loss value: $1,000.00. Occurred on 04/20/09 between 1:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. 2400 Guadalupe Public Intoxication / Resisting Arrest / Criminal Mischief: A non-UT subject was reported as yelling at pedestrians. The subject was found entering a bus. The bus driver understood the gravity of the subject's behavior and quickly asked the subject to leave the bus. Once the responding officer arrived and asked the subject to exit the bus, the subject complied. The subject started to light a cigarette. When the officer told the subject to refrain from smoking, the subject replied, “I'm probably going to jail, so I am going to smoke.” The subject showed signs of being under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a physical endangerment to himself and others. During the arrest process, the subject resisted to the point several officer were needed to gain control of him as the subject kicked and spat at several officers. Once inside the patrol vehicle, the subject began to kick various parts of the car's back passenger area which caused damage to parts of the vehicle. Repair cost: $50.00. Occurred on 04/20/09 at 5:08 p.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 20 alarm calls, 2 unsecured door reports, 1 public assist request and 1 light survey between 04/20/09 and 04/21/09. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community.
