When the student returned, he discovered his backpack had been stolen. A UT Recreational Sports staff member located the backpack inside one of the gymnasium's restrooms. An Apple i-Pod touch, an Apple i-phone and $20.00 in cash had been stolen from the backpack. Loss value: $470.00. Occurred on 04/23/09 between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Crime Prevention Tip: The student in this case admitted he has left his property in this location every time he has gone for a run over the last 7 months and had never had any problems before yesterday. Often times, people take a risk like this and there are no negative outcomes, so they continue to take such a risk with their property. It is not until a theft happens that people realize just how susceptible their property is throughout the day. Most often, an opportunity of just a few seconds and unattended property is all that is needed for a theft to happen. JESTER CENTER WEST, 201 East 21st Street Medical Emergency: A UT Staff member requested Austin—Travis County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for a resident who was feeling ill as a result of something he had ingested. The resident stated he and two other UT students had found a cigarette containing a green leafy substance they believed to be marijuana, so they smoked it. The resident and both of the other two students experienced a “bad reaction.” The other two students could not be located. EMS transported the resident to a local emergency room for further observations. Occurred on 04/24/09 at 12:14 a.m. Life Advice: Really!? – Do I really need to tell people to refrain from putting things they find on the ground in their mouth? The officer was able to pull behind the Kia and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The subject evaded in the Kia. The officer ended the pursuit a few blocks later in the interest of public safety. Upon returning to the lot, the officer confirmed the truck's right window had been broken out and the radio had been removed from the dash board. Repair cost: $200.00.
