Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 04-24-09 and Monday, 04-27-09. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, 2110 Speedway Attempted Burglary: A UT police officer responded to a reported alarm within a third floor computer lab. During the investigation, the officer learned a UT student had observed an unknown subject attempting to pick the lock. The unknown subject was described as: white male, last seen wearing a tan hat and a navy blue shirt. Occurred on:4-27-09, at 4:09 AM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A tan wallet containing personal identification and several credit cards was stolen from inside a gym bag. The bag was left unattended while the owner played basketball. During the investigation, the officer soon learned there had been an unauthorized purchase had been made at a local business. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 4-21-09, between 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM. LITTLEFIELD FOUNTAIN, 200 block West 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (4 Counts): A UT police officer discovered two UT students standing in the middle of the fountain taking pictures and two other UT students sitting on a retaining wall. When the officer stopped, the two students sitting on the retaining wall attempted to run away. When stopped, the students stated they were scared of the police. The officer noted several red cups sitting on the retaining wall where the joggers had been. The officer discovered that the cups contained an adult beverage, other than coke. As the investigation continued, the officer determined that all four students had been consuming alcohol and all four students were under the legal age of 21. All fours subjects were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 4-26-09, at 12:30 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT staff member discovered a fully clothed, unresponsive UT student sitting inside a shower stall with the water running. The student had been displaying the classic physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol and was still wearing the evidence on his clothes. During the investigation, Austin EMS treated the subject for alcohol poisoning and transported him to a local area hospital. Charges are pending. Occurred on: 4-26-09, at 2:17 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT staff member discovered the odor of burning marijuana emanating from a 10th floor dormitory room. During the investigation, the officer located two UT students standing outside the room talking to the UT staff member. As the investigation began, the officer learned that the students had been inhaling marijuana at another location and had returned to the dormitory room to retrieve additional supplies. The officer was able to recover a glass pipe that contained marijuana residue as well as a plastic baggie that contained a green leafy substance. Both subjects were issued a field release citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Occurred on: 4-25-09, at 11:48 PM. PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, 510 East 23rd Street Public Intoxication (2 Counts): An off-duty UT police officer observed a non-UT subject stumbling as he walked and becoming combative towards the patrons that he ran into. During the investigation, the officers learned that the same subject was engaged in an altercation with another patron. The officers located the subjects that were involved in the altercation. As the officers were escorting them out of the auditorium, the second subject became combative towards the officers. Both subjects were taken into custody for Public Intoxication and were transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-25-09, at 10:00 PM. TOWNES HALL, 727 East Dean Keeton Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member observed a known offender inside the building carrying a six pack of beer. During the investigation, the officers located the subject outside near the southeast portion of the building enjoying his libations. The officers issued the subject another written Criminal Trespass Warning after having arrested the same subject twice in the same location. He was escorted from the property. Occurred on: 4-25-09, at 12:35 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer observed a white truck commit several traffic violations. During the traffic investigation, the officer observed an open case of beer. As the investigation continued, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer soon learned that the driver was under the legal age of 21. The officer issued the UT student a field release for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 4-25-09, at 1:13 AM. 700 BLOCK EAST 47th STREET Suspicious Activity: A UT student received two emails from an unknown subject who requested the student to send pictures of her feet. The unknown subject claimed to be doing an art project and the sender wanted to remain anonymous because of the embarrassment factor. The student became concerned after receiving a copy of the Campus Watch detailing a somewhat similar event at the Littlefield Fountain. Occurred on: 4-24-09, at 9:00 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: In both of these cases, the unknown subject has not broken any State law. However, this subject has made several female students feel uncomfortable. Trust your instincts. If the situation makes you feel uneasy, then there is a chance that there is something wrong. 700 BLOCK COLORADO STREET Public Intoxication: A UT police officer responded to a report of an intoxicated subject being pulled into an alleyway. During the investigation, the officer located the subject, who was identified as a UT student. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer also noted the student was wearing the remnants of his dinner on his clothes. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-26-09, at 3:30 AM. 2400 BLOCK WHITIS AVE. Theft: A blue Kona “Paddy Wagon” bicycle, no this is not a police vehicle, was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of CMA, after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $350.00. Occurred between: 4-26-09, at 11:15 PM and 4-27-09, at 12:45 AM. 2600 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A UT police officer observed a non-UT subject yelling at students and other pedestrians as well as attempting to fight others as they walked past him. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-24-09 at 8:05 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 44 alarm calls, 2 callbox alarms, 2 medical emergency assists, 11 suspicious activity reports, 2 unsecured door reports, 1 lighting survey, and 4 public assist requests and between 04-24-09 and 04-27-09.
