Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 04-30-09 and Friday 05-01-09. Due to the recent national and local concerns about the Swine Flu, the University of Texas and the University of Texas Police Department would like to remind everyone of the following websites. These sites are designed to provide information to address your questions. http://www.utexas.edu/safety/ http://www.healthyhorns.utexas.edu/ SCAM ALERT In almost record time, the criminal element has begun taking advantage of the Swine Flu situation. Below is a link from MSN.com warning of the newest email scams. http://blogs.moneycentral.msn.com/smartspending/?fpn=watch%20out%20for%20swine%20flu%20scams&GT1=33009 COLORADO APARTMENTS, 2501 Lake Austin Blvd Criminal Trespass Warning (2 Counts) / Assist Outside Agency: A UT police officer discovered two non-UT subjects in an established campsite next to one of the apartment buildings. During the investigation, the officer soon discovered one of the subjects had an outstanding outside agency Felony arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking and is awaiting extradition. In addition to other law enforcement actions taken, both subjects were issued written Criminal Trespass Warnings. The second subject was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 05-01-09, at 3:45 AM. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, 2110 Speedway Theft: A black Apple iPhone was reported stolen from a 3rd floor computer lab after the cellular telephone had been left unattended and unsecured on top of a printer. Loss value: $125.00. Occurred on: 4-23-09, between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM. CONNALLY CENTER FOR JUSTICE, 726 East 25th Street Suspicious Activity: A UT student reported receiving a harassing telephone call from a non-UT subject. The subject was upset about an ex-girlfriend and had contacted the UT student to argue his displeasure over his current situation. While the subject continued to yell, the student informed the subject that she was going to hang up if he continued to refuse to have an adult conversation. The student followed through with her promise. Occurred on: 4-30-09, at 3:11 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: This student did a great job. When you are receiving harassing or annoying telephone calls, simply hang up and notify the police department. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject in a restricted area attempting to sell magazine subscriptions to the residents. During the investigation, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from campus. Occurred on: 4-30-09, at 5:02 PM. SAN JACINTO PARKING GARAGE, 2401 San Jacinto Blvd Theft: A black K2 mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks that are located on the west side of the parking garage after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 4-30-09, between 3:30 PM and 10:00 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 8 alarm calls, 1 medical emergency assist, 2 suspicious activity reports, 2 unsecured door reports, 6 light malfunction report s, 1 lost, then found child and 1 public assist request report between 04/30/09 and 05/01/09.
