Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 05/06/09 and Thursday, 05/07/09. BURDINE HALL, 2505 University Ave Theft: A textbook titled Just the Essentials, along with a manila folder were stolen from inside a first floor classroom during class change after being left unsecured on top of the A/V podium. During the investigation, the officer learned an unknown subject approached the on-coming instructor and asked if they needed the podium moved. The instructor soon discovered her property had been taken. Unknown subject was described as: white male, late 30's or early 40's, with meek mannerisms. Subject was last seen wearing a light colored polo style polo shirt and blue jeans. Loss value: $25.00. Occurred on: 5-06-09 at 11:50 AM and 5-06-09 at 12:01 PM. CENTENNIAL PARK, 1600 Red River Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered along the east side of Waller Creek establishing a camp. During the investigation, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 5-07-09 at 6:04 AM. CLARK FIELD, 300 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT police officer discovered a non-UT subject sleeping on a bench. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject had been consuming alcohol the night before and had slept at a friend's house. The subject stated that he had needed to get some fresh air and had fallen asleep. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 5-06-09, at 8:56 AM. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Ave Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member observed a UT student writing an advertisement in pink colored chalk on the sidewalk outside of the dormitory. During the investigation, the officer located the aspired Rembrandt with a bucket of chalk. As the investigation continued, the officer soon discovered the aspiring Rembrandt had also been expressing his amore for a fellow student. The student was allowed to clean up his chalk renderings and was referred to the Dean of Student's Office. Occurred on: 5-07-09, at 3:12 AM. NURSING SCHOOL, 1710 Red River Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT police officer discovered a non-UT subject sleeping next to the southwest exterior door leading into the building. During the investigation, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 5-07-09, at 2:14 AM. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Suspicious Person: A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject who seemed to be wandering around aimlessly causing the staff member to become concerned. During the investigation, the officer located the subject and soon learned that the subject had been issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. The subject informed the officer that he was studying to become a full time UT student and was confused about the public areas on campus. The officer explained the areas that a public and those that are restricted. After explaining to those areas that were public, the subject was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 5-06-09, at 11:35 AM. STUDENT SERVICES BUILDING, 100 East Dean Keeton Terrorist Threat: A UT student reported a non-UT subject had made a threat to commit serious bodily harm towards a family friend. The student went on to say that she knows the suspect well, and that the suspect has “anger issues.” Occurred on: 5-06-09, at 2:32 PM. UNIVERSITY POLICE BUILDING, 2201 Robert Dedman Breech of Computer Security: A UT staff member reported after several failed attempts to log into the UT server, he discovered that his log in had been locked. During the investigation, the officer learned that the staff member's EID had been compromised. As the investigation continued, the officer soon discovered that the staff member had received an odd email that appeared to have been a phishing email. Discovered on: 5-06-09.
