We continually put our recommendations for using a quality u-lock to secure your bicycle in the Campus Watch. We make that same recommendation in every crime prevention presentation and in every news story about bicycle theft. While there are more bicycle racks on campus then there are police officers, I assure you there are fewer bike racks than students. Let's all do our part, if you have a bike, make sure you are protecting your transportation by using a quality u-lock. If you don't ride a bike, but know someone who does, make that recommendation to that person. When you are out and about on campus, pay attention to what is happening around you. If you see suspicious activity, like someone pulling on bicycles at bike racks, or using wire cutters / bolt cutters to remove a lock then call UTPD as soon as possible at 512-471-4441. It is best if you program that number into your cell phone so it will be handy when you need it. If you report the suspicious activity and your report leads to UTPD catching a thief, then we will buy you the pizza of your choice and deliver it to you. Together we can make a difference.
