Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 06/02/09 and Wednesday, 06/03/09. ****Upcoming Event**** Help support your local emergency responders and the Texas Special Olympics by registering for the 5K Run with Heroes race being held on June 7th at 8:00 a.m. This year's race will be run in memory and honor of fallen Austin Police Officer Amy Donovan. For more information, please see the attached documents. TOWNES HALL, 727 East Dean Keeton Theft: A framed World War II recruitment poster was stolen while it hung on a 2nd floor hallway wall. Loss value: $450.00. Occurred between 06/01/09 at 5:00 p.m. and 06/02/09. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A staff member reported a non-UT subject had been using the Campus Link computers located on the 2nd floor of the building. The computers are for use by faculty, staff and student members. A subject matching the description given by the reporting person was located in the area. The subject admitted to have been trying to use the computers. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 05/02/09 at 10:58 a.m. UNIVERSITY POLICE BUILDING, 2201 Robert Dedman Assist Outside Agency (Stolen Property Recovery): A non-UT subject came into the police department to report having purchased a Dell laptop computer from an individual. After purchasing the laptop, the subject began to believe the laptop had been stolen. This belief was based on statements made by the seller and the fact the seller's name did not match the login name on the computer. A check revealed the laptop belonged to a UT student and had been stolen from the student's off-campus apartment. Recovery value: $900.00. Reported on 06/02/09 at 10:31 a.m. 300 West 24th Street Assist Outside Agency / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was found lying down on the ground. The subject had two outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for blocking a public sidewalk by sitting or lying – wouldn't you know. The subject was found to be in possession of a syringe that the subject admitted he had used to inject himself with heroin. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 06/02/09 at 2:50 p.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 14 alarm calls, 1 fire alarm call, 1 “Police Help” call box activation, 1 public assist and 7 unsecured door reports between 06/02/09 and 06/03/09. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
