UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as digging in the furniture cushions on the 3rd floor in an attempt to find change. The 3rd floor of the building is reserved for use by faculty, staff and students. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 06/03/09 at 1:34 p.m. 600 Lavaca Street Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed assisting another non-UT subject as they made their way down the street. The second subject required the assistance of the first as he was intoxicated to the point he could not remain upright without the assistance. That subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a danger to himself. In lieu of taking custody of the subject, the officer allowed the inebriated subject to remain in care custody and control of his sober friend. Occurred on 06/04/09 at 1:58 a.m. Crime Prevention Tip: I can't think of a better advertisement for having a sober friend accompany you to the bars or parties. Public Intoxication is a public safety issue. People who become intoxicated to the point they pose a threat to their own safety or that of others often come into contact with police officers. Their unsafe actions are frequently attributed to their level of intoxication. Once an officer recognizes this, the officer must do something to assure the intoxicated person's safety. Officer have three options, they can arrest the drunk individual, they can send the drunk individual to the hospital (courtesy of your local EMS) or they can turn the drunk person over to a sober, responsible adult. If you bring a sober buddy with you, then that gives an officer the option to take that action – thereby keeping you from staying the night in the iron bar hotel. 2400 San Jacinto Assist Outside Agency / Driving Without A License: A non-UT subject was stopped for driving a white Dodge sport utility vehicle at an “unsafe and imprudent speed well in excess of the 15 MPH posted speed limit.” The subject did not have a driver's license issued to him. The subject was found to have six outstanding outside agency arrest warrant; four of which were for driving without a license. Occurred on 06/03/09 at 6:28 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 12 alarm calls, 3 “Police Help” call box activation3, 1 public assist, 1 suspicious person report, 1 chemical spill report and 3 unsecured door reports between 06/03/09 and 06/04/09.
