Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 06/04/09 and Friday, 06/05/09. ****Upcoming Event**** Help support your local emergency responders and the Texas Special Olympics by registering for the 5K Run with Heroes race being held on June 7th at 8:00 a.m. This year's race will be run in memory and honor of fallen Austin Police Officer Amy Donovan. For more information, please see the attached documents. JESSE H. JONES HALL, 721 East Dean Keeton Criminal Trespass: A UT staff member reported seeing a non-UT subject entering the building. The staff member knew the subject had previously been issued a written criminal trespass warning citation. The subject was located on the 6th floor of the library. The subject had previously received a written criminal trespass warning citation and was taken into custody. Occurred on 06/04/09 at 1:55 p.m. WALTER WEBB HALL, 2500 Guadalupe Criminal Mischief: White chalk was used to write a word on the east exterior wall of the building. Removal cost: $30.00. Discovered on 06/04/09 at 7:25 a.m. WEST PICKLE RESEARCH, 3925 West Braker Lane Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject, who was wearing ladies lingerie, observed a marked police vehicle and began to run into the wooded area located on the west side of the building. The subject initially stated he had been robbed at machete point and was forced to change into the lingerie. After several other items of lingerie were located at the subject's nearby camp site, the subject admitted to wearing the lingerie as a costume to solicit prostitution. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 06/04/09 at 8:49 a.m. 300 East MLK Theft: A non-UT subject was approached by an unknown subject in the 1500 block of Red River Street. The unknown subject asked to use the first subject's cellular telephone. The two subjects walked to MLK Blvd then toward Trinity Street together as the second subject used the first subject's phone to place a call. Once at Trinity Street and MLK, the second subject kneeled down, took his “flip-flops” off then sprinted across the street with the first subject's phone. The thief jumped into a waiting car. The car was occupied by three or four other people. The car fled the area east bound on MLK. The thief was described as a black male, approximately 5'7” tall, wearing a Starter brand baseball cap with the words “This Is What Swagger Is” printed on the hat, black pants, black socks and black Jordan flip-flops. The get-a-way vehicle was described as a dark or silver colored sedan. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred on 06/04/09 at 10:32 p.m. 2100 San Jacinto Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was stopped for disregarding two different stop signs while operating a bicycle. The student was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages, but not to the point she was deemed to be a danger to herself or others. Occurred on 06/05/09 at 12:30 a.m. 2100 Speedway Public Intoxication / Interfering with the Duties of a Peace Officer: A UT student and a non-UT subject were observed staggering as they walked northbound by the roadway. The two individuals were friends of one-another and were attempting to aid each other as they walked. UT Police Officers stopped both subjects to check their welfare. The two individuals had a difficult time following simple directions including ones that would show they were able to maintain their own wellbeing. The two were found to be under the influence of alcoholic beverages to the point they were both deemed to be a danger to themselves and others. Occurred on 06/05/09 at 2:29 a.m. 2200 Guadalupe Indecent Exposure / Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT student reported a non-UT subject sat down next to her on a bus stop bench. The subject undid his pants and displayed himself to the student who then left the area and reported the activity to the police. The subject was quickly located and taken into custody. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning to serve as notice that once he was released from detention, he was not welcome back on campus. Occurred on 06/04/09 at 4:21 p.m. 2600 Guadalupe Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was stopped for driving his Honda the wrong way on a one-way roadway. The subject was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for Public Intoxication. Occurred on 06/05/09 at 12 midnight. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 22 alarm calls, 1 suspicious activity report, 1 medical emergency assist and 1 unsecured door report between 06/04/09 and 06/05/09. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
