Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 6/09/09 and Wednesday, 06/10/09. CLAUDIA TAYLOR HALL, 210 West 6th Street Public Intoxication: A UT police officer discovered a non-UT subject laying face down on the east side of the building. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer learned that the subject had consumed a pint of whiskey along with several beers. Witnesses informed the officer that the subject had been running back and forth into the roadway, forcing on-coming traffic to swerve or stop to avoid hitting the subject. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-09-09, at 10:54 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A UT student reported $49.00 in cash was taken from his wallet. During the investigation, the officer learned the stolen money had been secured inside a second floor locker with a combination lock. Loss value: $49.00. Occurred between: 6-09-09, at 10:45 PM and 6-10-09, at 12:10 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: As you will soon discover in this edition of the Campus Watch, combination pad-locks are very easy to defeat. If you are planning on using public lockers, consider replacing your combination pad-lock with a keyed pad-lock. This will prevent a thief from simply “rapping” the lock open. REC SPORTS CENTER, 2001 San Jacinto Blvd. Theft: A black backpack containing an LG cellular telephone, Apple IPod, $55.00 in cash, several credit cards and personal identification were stolen from two secured lockers located inside a second floor men's locker room. During the investigation, the officer learned that the victim's lock had also been taken. Loss value: $660.00. Occurred on: 6-09-09, between 5:25 PM and 6:50 PM. 200 BLOCK WEST 6TH STREET Assist Outside Agency: A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject performing a bodily function along the north side of CTJ while his two companions stood by. The staff member then observed all three subjects approach a parked vehicle, break the right rear window, then drive away. Responding UT police officers located the vehicle and took all three subject into custody. As the investigation continued, the officers learned that the vehicle belonged to the parent of one of the subjects, but all three had been drinking alcohol. All three subjects were released to the Austin Police Department. Occurred on: 6-08-09, at 11:56 PM. 2200 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Collision / Failed to Display a Driver's License / Displaying an Expired Inspection Certificate / Failed to Maintain Financial Responsibility: UT police officers responded to a reported collision. During the investigation, the officer learned one of the drivers, a UT staff member, was unable to present a current driver's license or proof of insurance. The officer also discovered the vehicle's inspection sticker and registration were expired. The subject was taken into custody for Failed to Display a Driver's License / Displaying an Expired Inspection Certificate / Failed to Maintain Financial Responsibility and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-09-09, at 6:24 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 13 alarm calls, 2 fire alarm activations, 2 callbox alarm calls, 1 suspicious person report and 4 unsecured door reports between 06/09/09 and 06/10/09.
