Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 06/24/09 and Thursday, 06/25/09. 400 East Dean Keeton Disorderly Conduct – Offensive Gesture: A UT staff member was almost struck by a motor vehicle while the staff member was driving to work. The staff member sounded his horn to gain the attention of the driver of the other vehicle. The horn worked in gaining said attention as the driver of the other vehicle sped up and swerved in front of the staff member's car. The driver of the other vehicle went on to acknowledge the staff member by sending the staff member a single digit salute. The driver and staff member turned onto San Jacinto and each proceeded to drive to their place of work. The driver of the other vehicle parked and exited his vehicle. As the staff member drove by the driver, the driver yelled, “If you didn't use your horn I wouldn't have tried to run you over!†and again displayed a single finger in an upright position. Occurred on 06/24/09 at 7:07 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 16 alarm calls, 1 fire alarm response, 2 motor vehicle collisions, 1 suspicious package report, 1 suspicious person report, 1 public assist request and 9 unsecured door reports between 06/24/09 and 06/25/09. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community.
