Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 06/26/09 and Monday, 06/29/09. CLAUDIA TAYLOR JOHNSON HALL, 210 West 6th Street Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was observed loitering on the east side of the building. A guard officer directed the subject to leave the area. The subject walked to the other side of the building and sat down. When an officer arrived, the officer learned the subject had four outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for pedestrian in the roadway, camping in a public place, public intoxication and consuming alcohol where prohibited. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning citation. Occurred on 06/26/09 at 12:38 p.m. ERNEST COCKRELL Jr. HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Theft: A blue and white day planner, $8 in cash and a text book were stolen from an unsecured basement level office. Loss value: $109.00. Occurred on 06/23/09 between 12 noon and 10:00 p.m. GUADALUPE GARAGE, 1616 Guadalupe Burglary: A chain-link fence surrounding a bicycle storage area located on the ground floor of the garage was disconnected from a fence support beam. Two bicycles that had been stored in the enclosed space were removed from the storage area and hidden nearby. At this time, it is unknown if other bicycles were stolen from the storage area. Loss value: unknown at this time. Recovery value: $100.00. Repair cost: $35.00. Occurred between 06/27/09 at 11:52 a.m. and 06/28/09 at 10:09 a.m. JACKSON SCHOOL OF GEOLOGY, #10 East Mall Burglary: A glass windowpane was broken out of a 5th floor office door. A grey and white plaid Dakine ski bag containing various clothing items was stolen from the office. A pair of ski boots that had been in the bag were removed and left in the office. During the investigation, 12 other 5th floor offices had the door's windowpanes broken out. Several other items were stolen from the other offices; including a Dewalt portable drill in its case, a drill bit, 2 four-piece china tea sets, a portable hard drive and 5 data loggers. During the investigation, the UT Police Department received information regarding a suspicious person that had been observed the previous weekend. In that case, a subject followed a staff member into the building when the building was closed to the public. The staff member asked if the subject needed assistance to which the subject stated he had a meeting and quickly left the area. That subject was described as a black male subject in his 50's, approximately 6' tall with a thin build, stubble beard and an oval shaped face. The subject was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue shirt and carrying a backpack. It is not known if this subject is responsible for the recent rash of burglaries, but this type of behavior is frequently seen in thieves who steal from offices. Loss value: $600.00. Repair cost: $390.00. Occurred between 06/27/09 at 1:30 p.m. and 06/28/09 at 3:00 a.m. TOWNES HALL, 727 East Dean Keeton Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as having been loitering in the building and was also believed to have eaten a staff member's lunch. The subject was located and issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 06/26/09 at 7:36 p.m. WALTER WEBB HALL, 2500 Guadalupe Criminal Mischief: White chalk and blue chalk were used to write several words and draw images on the south and east exterior walls of the building. Removal cost: $40.00. Discovered on 06/29/09 at 1:56 a.m. WEST MALL BUILDING, #3 West Mall Theft: A brown paper bag containing children's clothing items and three hard cover books were stolen from a 4th floor office. Loss value: $120.37. Occurred between 05/06/09 at 10:00 a.m. and 05/13/09 at 10:00 a.m. Reported on 06/26/09 at 11:22 a.m. 500 Colorado Driving While Intoxicated: A non-UT subject was stopped for driving a 2007 Honda Pilot the wrong way on a one-way roadway. The subject had a most difficult time exiting the vehicle and walking as she went from one fixed object to another for support. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point she was deemed to be driving while intoxicated. Occurred on 06/28/09 at 3:00 a.m. 300 East 23rd Street Assist Outside Agency: A UT staff member was stopped for running a stop sign while driving a white 2004 Subaru sport utility vehicle. The staff member was found to have two outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for theft by check and failure to maintain financial responsibility (driving with no insurance). Occurred on 06/29/09 at 5:35 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 43 alarm calls, 1 fire alarm response, 1 welfare concern report, 2 suspicious activity reports, 1 light malfunction report, 4 public assist requests, 1 medical emergency assist and 13 unsecured door reports between 06/26/09 and 06/29/09. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
