Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 07-07-09 and Wednesday, 07-08-09 Campus Watch Milestone: Yesterday the Campus Watch reached a milestone. Currently there are over 10,000 subscribers worldwide to the Campus Watch. CRIME PREVENTION TIP OF THE DAY: July is National Auto Theft Prevention Month. Today the University of Texas Police Department and the City of Austin Police Department are partnering up to help reduce the vulnerable of your vehicle. Starting today between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM, UTPD and APD will be setting up several VIN etching stations in Parking Lot 104 next to UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Come out and take full advantage of this FREE Service. CENTENNIAL PARK, 1600 Red River Criminal Trespass Warning / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Assist Outside Agency: A UT police officer observed a non-UT subject pushing a gas grill through the park. During the investigation, the subject informed the officer that he had taken the grill from his apartment and was going to sell it to a friend for $20.00. As the investigation continued the officer soon discovered the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant for Forgery. The subject was taken into custody. During a search, the officers located a glass pipe that contained cocaine residue. The subject was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement actions taken the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 7-07-09, at 7:20 PM. ERNEST COCKRELL JR. HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Burglary of Building: A silver HP laptop computer was stolen from a secured office located on the fourth floor. Loss value, $1,000.00. Occurred between: 6-30-09, and 7-07-09. LAKE AUSTIN CENTER, 3001 Lake Austin Blvd Burglary of Building: A Western digital portable hard drive was stolen from inside a secured first floor office. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred between: 7-02-09, and 7-07-09. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed riding a bicycle at night without a headlamp. During the investigation, the officer noticed the subject was attempting to conceal an object under his shirt near his waistband. During a frisk, the officer discovered the subject was concealing an open can of Keystone beer. As the investigation continued, the officer soon learned the student was under the legal age of 21. The subject was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 7-08-09, at 12:30 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Bicyclists are required, by state law, to obey the same rules of the road as a vehicle. Riding at night, cyclists are required to have a forward facing lamp to illuminate the roadway. Many times a simple traffic investigation leads to bigger problems for the offender. This student not only has to take care of a traffic fine, but gets to see a second judge and the Dean of Students. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 19 alarm calls, 1 public assist request, 1 found property report and 4 unsecured door reports between 07/07/09 and 07/08/09.
