Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 07/16/09 and Tuesday, 07/21/09. CLAUDIA T. JOHNSON HALL, 210 West 6th Street Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was observed sleeping on a bench located on the east side of the building. The subject stated he fell asleep while waiting for the bus. The subject was found to have two outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for a pedestrian in the roadway and for consuming alcohol where prohibited. Occurred on 07/17/09 at 1:50 a.m. CLAUDIA T. JOHNSON HALL, 210 West 6th Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as sleeping on a bench located on the east side the building. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 07/20/09 at 1:38 a.m. FRANK C ERWIN SPECIAL EVENTS CENTER, 1701 Red River Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as “spitting on the windows” and going through the trash cans that were located on the west side of the building. When stopped, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. When the subject was given his copy of the warning, he promptly kissed the citation then crumbled the citation into a small ball – obviously the beginning of a love / hate relationship. Occurred on 07/20/09 at 12:00 P.M. JOHNSON WILDFLOWER CENTER, 4801 Lacrosse Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The right front window of a parked 2003 Saturn Vue was broken out of the vehicle. A black leather and canvas purse containing a cell phone, debit card and driver's license was stolen form the front floorboard of the vehicle. Loss value: $150.00. Repair cost: $150.00. Occurred on 07/13/09 between 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Crime Prevention Tip: How long do you think it took to commit this crime – on the long side the crime took a minute. Think about it, this crime could have been committed 90 times in the hour and half time frame of this crime. So often, people will risk having their property stolen from their vehicle because they only plan to be there for an hour or so. Even a minute or two is too long to risk having your property damaged or stolen. To prevent this type of crime and to save yourself the headache, time and cost of replacing a window, make sure you never leave any property inside your vehicle. L. THEO BELLMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Theft: A Sony DSC-T100 digital camera with memory card and USB cable was stolen from a drawer located inside a 2nd floor office. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred between 07/10/09 at 2:07 p.m. and 07/16/09 at 2:00 p.m. RECREATIONAL SPORTS CENTER, 2001 San Jacinto Disorderly Conduct (Offensive Language) / Failure to Identify / Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was reported as causing a disturbance when she was asked to leave the gym. The subject was reported to have yelled several vulgarities at a staff member in a threatening manner. When the subject was stopped she provided a fictitious name. After a lengthy field investigation, it was believed the subject went by a different last name. The subject continued to provide an incorrect name. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 07/18/09 at 8:22 a.m. 2100 San Jacinto Driving While Intoxicated with an Open Container / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Assist Outside Agency / Possession of a Controlled Substance: A non-UT subject was stopped for speeding, disregarding a stop sign and passing another vehicle on the right side where prohibited to do so while driving a gray Dodge pick-up truck. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was deemed to be driving while intoxicated. The subject was also found to be in possession of a small metal pipe containing burned marijuana residue. Several open cans of beer were found inside the truck. A non-UT passenger inside the vehicle was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant. That subject was also found to be in possession of a small plastic bag containing cocaine. Occurred on 07/18/09 at 2:07 a.m. 300 West 26th Driving with an Invalid License / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was stopped for driving a maroon Chevrolet pick-up truck with canceled license plates. The subject showed to be ineligible for a driver's license with a denied renewal based on a failure to appear in court. The subject was also found to have two outstanding outside agency arrests warrants for traffic violations. Occurred on 07/17/09 at 1:25 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 64 alarm calls, 8 “Police Help” call box alarms, 4 fire alarms, 3 suspicious activity reports, 1 suspicious package report, 1 suspicious odor report, 3 light malfunction reports, 5 public assist requests, 2 welfare concern reports, 1 vehicle fire report and 13 unsecured door reports between 07/16/09 and 07/21/09. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
