Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 07/21/09 and Wednesday, 07/22/09. ENGINEERING TEACHING CENTER, 204 East Dean Keeton Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member reported seeing a subject inside the building with a gun. UT Police Officers responded to the building and located a UT student that matched the description of the subject. The student was in possession of a disassembled weapon that she was using for a class project. The building was checked and cleared for entry. Occurred on 07/21/09 3:23 p.m. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Mischief: White chalk was used to draw images on the plaza located on the north side of the library. Removal cost: $20.00. Discovered on 07/21/09 at 3:11 p.m. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as yelling at pedestrians on the west side of the building. A Union Building manager witnessed the subject yelling at pedestrians before entering the building and loitering in a second floor room. At the request of the building manager, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and asked to leave the building. Occurred on 07/21/09 at 9:38 a.m. WEST MALL OFFICE BUILDING, #3 West Mall Theft: A black Kona Dew bicycle was stolen while it was “secured” with a cable lock to a bicycle rack located on the west side of the building. Occurred on 07/21/09 between 12:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. 2300 San Jacinto Driving Under the Influence by a Minor with an Open Container: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was stopped for speeding while driving a silver Honda Civic. The student was found to have consumed an alcoholic beverage, but not to the point she was deemed to have been driving while intoxicated. A plastic bag containing a small amount of wine was found inside the vehicle. Occurred on 07/22/09 at 2:03 a.m. General Knowledge for Your Benefit: In Texas, anyone under the age of 21 that is found driving while under the influence of any degree of alcohol is subject to being cited for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. This means that if you are under 21 and you get stopped while driving with alcohol on your breath, you are subject to receiving a citation and will have your driver's license suspended. If the officer determines you are under the influence of alcohol to the degree you are intoxicated, then you will be arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. All this being said, if you are under 21, do not drink alcohol – it's against the law. If you do find that somehow alcohol did make its way into your system, then don't drive. That just sounds like good advice no matter…no matter how old you are.
