Report for 08/21/2009

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 08/20/09 and Friday, 08/21/09. LIVING LEARNING CENTER, 2610 D Whitis Ave Theft: A blue and silver Mongoose mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of the building after being secured with both a U-shaped lock and a self locking cable lock. The officer learned the UT student had secured the front tire to the bike rack using the U-shaped lock. The cable lock was used to secure both tires to the bicycle. The officer noted the front tire was still secured to the bike rack. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between: 8-19-09 and 8-20-09. Crime Prevention Tip: Using good locks is only half the battle in prevention. Proper installation of the locks is the other half. When using a two-lock locking system, the U-shaped lock should be used to secure the bike frame and front tire to the bike rack. The self-locking cable lock should be used to secure the rear tire to the bike frame. WOOLDRIDGE HALL, 600 West 24th Street Theft: An Apple iPhone was reported stolen from an unsecured first floor office. The officer learned from the cell phone's former owner that the cellular telephone had been left unattended on top of a desk while plugged into a charger. The officer discovered the victim had seen a suspicious unknown subject leaving the staff member's office prior to the discovery of the theft. The unknown subject was described as: Asian male, 5'-7”, and was last seen wearing a white polo style shirt and blue pants. Loss value:$100.00. Occurred on: 8-20-09, between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: During this year's Freshman Orientation, many parents had questions pertaining to SURE WALK. The UT Student Government is proud to announce SURE WALK is back. "Don't want to walk home alone? Call SURE Walk at 512-232-WALK (9255) and volunteers will meet you anywhere on campus and escort you to your destination. SURE Walk is available from 9PM to 1AM, Monday through Thursday, and is located in the FAC Atrium." CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 8 alarm calls, 3 Call Boxes alarms, 2 public assist requests, 1 suspicious activity report, and 4 unsecured door reports between 08/20/09 and 08/21/09.
