Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 08/24/09 and Tuesday, 08/25/09. SURE Walk During this year's Freshman Orientation, many parents had questions pertaining to SURE Walk. The UT Student Government is proud to announce SURE Walk is back. "Don't want to walk home alone? Call SURE Walk at 512-232-WALK (9255) and volunteers will meet you anywhere on campus and escort you to your destination. SURE Walk is available from 9PM to 1AM, Monday through Thursday, and is located in the FAC Atrium." LIVING LEARNING HALL A, 2610 Whitis Attempted Theft / Criminal Mischief: The u-shaped shackle of a quality u-lock was bent in what appeared to be an attempt to steal a bicycle while the lock secured the bicycle to a bicycle rack located on the south side of the building. During the attempted theft, the front wheel to the bicycle sustained damage. Repair cost: $60.00. Occurred between 08/14/09 at 5:00 p.m. and 08/19/09. Crime Prevention Tip: For those readers who have not been keeping up with the daily reports, this is the 3rd such offense in this area over the course of the last week. Please remember that if you witness suspicious activity and call the UT Police Department and that call results in UTPD apprehending a criminal, we will deliver to you the pizza of your choice when and where you want it – just our way of saying thank you. PRINTING AND PRESS BUILDING, 2100 Comal Theft: A former UT staff member, who had recently been released from employment, failed to return several university owned items that had been issued to him. The items included a MacBook Pro laptop computer, a set of UT keys and a UT identification card. Property Value: $1,500.00. Reported on 08/24/09 at 8:45 a.m. SAN ANTONIO GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Leaving the Scene Collision: The left side of a black GMC 4-door vehicle was struck by an unknown vehicle while the GMC was legally parked on the 1st level of the garage. The striking vehicle left the scene without leaving driver information. Repair cost: $1,000.00. Occurred between 08/23/09 12 midnight and 08/24/09 at 3:30 p.m. 2200 San Jacinto Assist Outside Agency: A UT student was stopped for speeding while driving a red Toyota 4-door. The student was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for a Minor in Possession of Alcohol charge. Occurred on 08/25/09 at 4:45 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 22 alarm calls, 2 “Police Help” call box alarms, 3 public assist requests, 1 medical emergency assist call, 2 light malfunction reports, 1 disturbance report and 6 unsecured door reports between 08/24/09 and 08/25/09. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
