Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 08/25/09 and Wednesday, 08/26/09. SURE Walk During this year's Freshman Orientation, many parents had questions pertaining to SURE Walk. The UT Student Government is proud to announce SURE Walk is back. "Don't want to walk home alone? Call SURE Walk at 512-232-WALK (9255) and volunteers will meet you anywhere on campus and escort you to your destination. SURE Walk is available from 9PM to 1AM, Monday through Thursday, and is located in the FAC Atrium." JESTER CENTER WEST, 201 East 21st Street Minor in Possession of Alcohol / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (3 counts): Officers were summoned to a 4th floor dormitory room to investigate a report of several students who were in possession of alcohol. Upon arrival, the officers located three UT students, who were all under the age of 21 and had consumed alcoholic beverages. A forth student, who was also under the age of 21, was found to be in possession of 5 unopened and chilled cans of beer. Occurred on 08/26/09 at 12 a.m. SPEEDWAY GARAGE, 105 East 27th Street Burglary of a Motor Vehicle: 33 different hand tools were stolen from an unsecured tool box located on the back of a motorized utility cart that was parked on the ground floor of the parking garage. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred between 08/21/09 at 3:30 p.m. and 08/24/09 at 7:30 a.m. UNIVERSITY POLICE BUILDING, 2201 Robert Dedman Terroristic Threat: A UT student came to the police department to report receiving a threatening e-mail from an unknown sender. The e-mail made comments that the sender was contracted to cause the student bodily harm. The e-mail went on to state that if the student paid the sender money, the sender would not follow through on the threat. Reported on 08/25/09 at 3:26 p.m. Scam Alert: This is a scam that has become popular in the past year. The sender plays upon the recipient's fear that the sender has been contracted to kill them. The sender then hopes the recipient's fear will lead them to paying the sender off to keep from being harmed. If you receive such an e-mail, do not respond to it, report the e-mail to the police department and be mindful of any further suspicious activity, e-mails, letters or telephone calls. 2100 Speedway Criminal Mischief: A UT student reported that while his vehicle was in the crosswalk located at the intersection of 21st Street and Speedway, an unknown person kicked the right front fender of his blue 2002 Honda Civic. The kick caused a small dent in the fender. The unknown suspect walked away from the scene. The suspect was described as a white male in his 30's with “reddish brown buzz cut” hair, approximately 6' tall with a medium build and was last seen wearing a white long sleeve shirt, a red tie and dark brown slacks. Repair cost: $250.00. Occurred on 08/25/09 at 9:30 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 12 alarm calls, 1 “Police Help” call box alarm, 1 public assist request, 2 medical emergency assist calls, 1 light malfunction report, 1 suspicious odor report and 1 unsecured door report between 08/25/09 and 08/26/09. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community.
