Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 08/27/09 and Monday, 08/31/09. ERNEST COCKRELL HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT police officer observed a non-subject who matched the description of a previously reported suspicious person. During the investigation, the subject informed the officers that he was planning on attending the University, but had not taken any steps towards achieving that goal. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 8-28-09, at 10:52 AM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A black Sony drawstring handbag containing a brown leather wallet, two gift cards, several forms of personal identification, several debit cards, $14.00 in cash, and a black cellular telephone was stolen from an unsecured second floor men's locker room locker. Loss value: $123.00. Occurred on: 8-29-09, between 7:45 PM and 8:00 PM. GUADALUPE PARKING GARAGE, 1616 Guadalupe Theft: A UT Staff member discovered a tire immobilization device had been removed from a vehicle, and the vehicle had left the area. Loss value: $595.00. Occurred between: 8-28-09 and 8-29-09. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A grey and red colored Cannondale mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $1,000.00. Occurred between: 8-25-09 and 8-30-09. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member discovered a UT student inside a 3rd floor dormitory suffering from the effects of over indulgence of adult libations. The UT student was incoherent and was displaying the contents of his supper. As the investigation continued, the officers soon discovered the student was under the legal age of 21. Due to the continuing fact that the student remained incoherent, Austin EMS was notified. The subject was transported to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Occurred on: 8-30-09, at 5:07 AM. MUSIC RECITAL HALL, 2405 Trinity Ave Theft: A red and white Specialized mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured with a self –locking chain lock. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred between: 8-28-09, and 8-29-09. NORM HACKERMAN BUILDING, 100 East 24th Street Assault with Bodily Injury: A non-UT subject reported he was assaulted by another non-UT subject after being grabbed and struck several times with a closed fist. Occurred on: 8-28-09, at 9:00 AM. PARKING LOT 25, 2500 Block San Jacinto Blvd. Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed stopping pedestrians and asking them for money. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 8-28-09, at 7:26 PM. PARKING LOT 27, 2600 Block Whitis Ave Theft: A UT staff member discovered a tire immobilization device had been removed from a vehicle, and the vehicle had left the area. Loss value: $595.00. Occurred on: 8-29-09 between 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM. SAN JACINTO PARKING GARAGE, 2401 San Jacinto Blvd Theft: A UT student observed a non-UT subject “messing” with a bike that was secured to the bike rack. The student notified one of the on-call RA's inside Simkins Dormitory. During the investigation, the officer learned a bicycle had been stolen from the bike racks and the bicycle belonged to the on-call RA. A description of the suspect was dispatched and the officers located the subject a short distance away. The subject was taken into custody and was later transported to Central Booking. Loss value: $100.00. (Recovered) Occurred on: 8-29-09, at 12:14 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: In the next couple of days, our department will be delivering a pizza to the witness in this case. If it were not for his actions, a thief would have gotten away with another student's property. SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORKS, 1925 San Jacinto Blvd. Theft: A Philips DVD player was reported stolen from a first floor office. The officer was unable to determine if the room had been secured to prevent the theft. Loss value: $35.00. Occurred: 8-01-09 to 8-28-09. SIMKINS DORMITORY, 2501 San Jacinto Blvd Public Intoxication: UT police officers responded to Simkins Dormitory on a report that two unidentified males were transporting an unconscious female. During the investigation, the officers located the unconscious female inside a second floor dormitory room. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath along with the wafting odor of vomit. Officers learned the subject had been to several downtown establishments and had consumed large quantities of vodka. Austin EMS transported the subject to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Charges for Public Intoxication are pending. Occurred on: 8-31-09, at 12:17 AM. 400 BLOCK EAST 23rd STREET Assist Outside Agency: A UT police officer observed a red Buick travelling the wrong way on a posted one-way street. During the traffic investigation, the officer soon discovered the driver had three out standing outside agency arrest warrants. The subject was taken into custody for the outstanding outside agency warrants and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 8-28-09, at 2:40 AM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO Theft: A UT police officer observed two subjects carrying a menu board. During the investigation, the officers learned the menu board had been taken from a local area business. The business owner was located and identified his property. One subject was taken into custody for the theft. The subject informed the officer that he was celebrating and enjoying his 21st birthday. The subject was transported to Central Booking where a picture was taken to document his 21st birthday. Occurred on: 8-29-09, at 1:34 AM. 700 BLOCK COLORADO Assist Outside Agency: A UT police officer observed a silver Ford Taurus commit several traffic violations. During the traffic investigation, the non-UT driver handed the officer a valid State issued ID card. The officer soon learned the driver's license had been suspended and he had 10 outstanding outside agency arrest warrants. The subject was taken into custody for the warrants and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 8-30-09, at 3:56 PM. 2600 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed staggering and stumbling back and forth as he attempted to fight the effects of Earth's gravity. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student's breath. When asked how much alcohol he had consumed, the student replied, “A little bit.” The officer also learned that the subject was under the legal age of 21 to have been able to consume an alcoholic beverage. The subject began getting annoyed with the officers and wanted to leave and go home. The subject was displaying enough clues that indicated he was intoxicated and was presenting a danger to himself. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 8-30-09, at 5:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 54 alarm calls, 4 “Police Help” call box alarms, 1 fire alarm, 6 public assist requests, 4 medical emergency assist calls, 2 light malfunction reports, suspicious odor call, 2 suspicious person report,1 suspicious activity report, 1 welfare concern report, and 10 unsecured door reports between 08/27/09 and 08/31/09.
