Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 09/10/09 and Friday, 09/11/09. ****Upcoming Event**** The Counseling and Mental Health Center is proud to announce U.T.'s first Suicide Prevention Week (September 14th through September 18th). This week is dedicated to raising awareness about suicide and suicidal behaviors among our students. It represents a call to action and involvement by all UT staff, faculty, and students to support suicide prevention. Throughout the week, many UT departments and organizations are sponsoring a variety of interactive programs. Be that one who recognizes when your student or friend is thinking about suicide and learn how to help them. For more information about the week's events, check out cmhc.utexas.edu/bethatone ****ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE**** The University of Texas Police Department will be hosting the 6th annual Citizen's Police Academy (CPA). The CPA will be held every Monday night beginning, October 5, 2009. The academy will end, November 16, 2009 with a graduation ceremony. If you are interested in attending the next Citizen's Police Academy, contact Capt. Don Verett at 232-6444 or don.verett@austin.utexas.edu. ****Upcoming Event**** This weekend, UTPD will be holding the first RAD for Men program. Please see the attached advertisement to see how you can sign-up for this program. Limited spaces are available, so act now so you will be safer later. JESTER ACADEMIC CENTER, 201 East 21st Street Suspicious Person: A UT student reported an unknown subject appears to be following her around campus. The unknown subject would show up in various parts of campus and stare at the reporting student. The unknown subject was described as: White male, 5'-7”, slender build with hunched shoulders, pointy chin and bushy eyebrows. Occurred between: 8-26-09 and 9-10-09. LITTLEFIELD HOUSE, 302 West 24th Street Criminal Trespass / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered camping on the steps of the Littlefield House. The officer soon learned two things, the subject had just received a prior written Criminal Trespass Warning less than a month ago and had 9 outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. The subject became very indignant when the officers took him into custody for Criminal Trespass and the outstanding 9 warrants. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-11-09, at 12:22 AM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Trespass: A UT staff member observed a known offender inside a restricted area of the building. The non-UT subject charged towards the staff member yelling at her. During the investigation, the responding officers located the subject and learned the subject had been issued a prior written Criminal Trespass Warning. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-10-09, at 10:20 AM. 200 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Assist Outside Agency: A UT police officer observed a subject committing a traffic violation on a bicycle. During the traffic investigation, the officer soon learned that the subject had 10 outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-10-09, at 11:38 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer observed a UT student attempting to fight the effects of earth's gravity to no avail. After repeatedly falling to the ground and relying on the assistance of a friend to pick him up, the officer stopped him before the student hurt himself. During the investigation, the officer discovered the student was still wearing the evidence, on his shirt, of having had a physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol. The student had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath along with a hint of bile. The officer learned the student was under the age of 21 and had consumed a generous portion of beer. The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Had it not been for the sober friend, the student would have gone to jail for Public Intoxication. Occurred on: 9-10-09, at 11:57 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 15 alarm calls, 1 suspicious person report, and 3 unsecured door reports between 09/19/09 and 09/11/09.
