Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 09/11/09 and Monday 09/14/09. ****ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE**** The University of Texas Police Department will be hosting the 6th annual Citizen's Police Academy (CPA). The CPA will be held every Monday night beginning, October 5, 2009. The academy will end, November 16, 2009 with a graduation ceremony. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 200 East Martin Luther King Blvd. Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer observed a passenger passed out inside another vehicle. During the investigation, the officer learned the passenger had been at a fraternity party, the UT student's speech was mumbled. A moderate odor of alcohol was detected on the passenger's breath. The officer soon learned the UT student was under the legal age of 21. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-12-09, at 2:55 AM. HARRY RANSOM CENTER, 300 West 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject entered the building wearing only a pair of shorts. Staff members became concerned when the subject sat on the floor and fell asleep. During the investigation, the subject informed the officers that his medication had made him sleepy. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the building. Occurred on: 9-11-09, at 1:35 PM. JESSIE H. JONES COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING B, 2504 B Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping under a staircase. During the investigation, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 9-12-09, at 3:45 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member reported a UT student was hitting doors and trashcans in fit of rage. The staff member heard the student yelling that his friends had not invited him to smoke marijuana with them. During the investigation, the UT student denied he was angry because he had been excluded by his friends from smoking dope. Occurred on: 9-13-09, at 3:35 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member reported a UT student was crying hysterically and was extremely intoxicated. The officer located the student and noted she was not crying hysterically; however, she was having an extremely difficult time standing up and maintaining her balance. The officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the student's breath and learned she was coming back from a sorority party. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and released to a sober friend. Occurred on: 9-12-09, at 1:55 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Staff member discovered a UT student wearing wet, disheveled and grass stained clothes pounding on a 4th floor dormitory room. The subject was yelling about being locked out of his room by his roommate. During the investigation, the subject became belligerent and sarcastic towards the officer and other students living in the area. The subject informed the officer that he had been to a fraternity party then informed the officer that his uncle was a Captain in the Homicide Department. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was released to a sober friend. Occurred on: 9-12-09, at 3:37 AM MAIN BUILDING, #1 South Mall Theft: A black backpack containing a Samsung cellular telephone, TI-83 calculator, two textbooks and two USB thumb drivers was stolen from a study table located inside the Life Science Library. During the investigation, the officer learned an unknown subject had been sitting at a university owned computer for several hours without logging on. The unknown subject was described as: White male, 30 to 40 years of age, 6'-0”, 165-170 pounds with a light brown hair in a ponytail. Loss value: $180.00. Occurred on: 9-13-09, between 2:58 PM and 3:00 PM. MOORE-HILL DORMITORY, 214 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member discovered a UT student passed out in a 1st floor hallway. The staff member observed evidence the student had completed a natural function in response to a full bladder. During the investigation, the officer learned the subject had been to a fraternity party where he had consumed several glasses of beer. The officer learned the subject was under the legal age of 21. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-12-09, at 3:15 PM 200 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Public Intoxication: A UT police officer observed a non-UT subject stumbling and staggering as he attempted to negotiate his navigational beacons. When the subject stopped walking he began swaying so substantially that he almost fell over. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject did not know where he was and kept telling the officer that he was heading back to a wedding reception at the Hyatt while pointing on the opposite direction. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-13-09, at 1:20 AM. 1800 BLOCK SOUTH IH-35 Driving While Intoxicated: A UT police officer observed a black Nissan travelling without it's headlamps turned on. During the traffic investigation, the UT student driver informed the officer that he had not been drinking but was dropping his drunk friends off. The officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath and noted his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver's displayed a number of clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-12-09, at 3:51 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 38 alarm calls,3 call box alarm reports, 3 suspicious person reports, 2 suspicious activity reports, and 20 unsecured door reports between 09/11/09 and 09/14/09.
