Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday 09/14/09 and Tuesday, 09/15/09. ****ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE**** The University of Texas Police Department will be hosting the 6th annual Citizen's Police Academy (CPA). The CPA will be held every Monday night beginning, October 5, 2009. The academy will end, November 16, 2009 with a graduation ceremony. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A grey Mongoose mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a U-shaped lock and a cable. During the investigation, the officer learned the U-shaped lock was still attached to the bike rack and the cable had been cut. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between: 9-11-09 and 9-14-09. Crime Prevention Tip: In order for a two-lock locking system to be effective, both locks have to be used properly. The U-shaped lock is designed to secure the bike to the bike rack. The self-locking cable lock is designed to secure the rear to the bike frame. All this thief had to do is cut the cable lock in order to steal the bike. LITTLEFIELD HOUSE, 302 West 24th STREET Criminal Trespass Warning (3 Counts): A UT police officer discovered three non-UT subjects sleeping on west side of the building. During the investigation, one of the subjects informed the officer that an Austin Police Officer had directed them to the Littlefield home so that they could sleep. The officer issued all three subjects a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted them back towards APD's jurisdiction. Occurred on: 9-14-09, at 1:30 AM. SPEEDWAY PARKING GARAGE, 105 East 27th Street Criminal Trespass Warning (2 Counts): A UT staff member discovered two non-UT subjects skateboarding inside the parking structure. Both subjects were issued written Criminal Trespass Warnings and were escorted from the campus area. Occurred on: 9-14-09, at 5:20 PM. TOWNES HALL, 727 East Dean Keeton Assist Outside Agency: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject sleeping inside a restricted area. During the investigation the officers located the subject working hard on sawing several logs. The subject explained to the officers that he had been reading and decided to take a nap. The officers soon learned the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody. During a search officers discovered the non-UT subject was in possession of a current UT student's ID card. The ID was confiscated and the subject was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 9-14-09, at 10:22 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 12 alarm calls, 2 call box alarm reports, 3 suspicious person reports, 2 suspicious activity reports, and 10 unsecured door reports between 09/14/09 and 09/15/09.
