Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday 09/14/09 and Tuesday, 09/15/09. ****ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE**** The University of Texas Police Department will be hosting the 6th annual Citizen's Police Academy (CPA). The CPA will be held every Monday night, beginning October 5, 2009. The academy will end, November 16, 2009 with a graduation ceremony. BLANTON DORMITORY, 2500 University Ave Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was reported standing in front of a second floor dormitory room and “Marking his Territory”. After refreshing his scent markers, the subject was seen walking into an unsecured second floor dormitory room. Upon the arrival of the officers, the officers were quick to learn the subject was not the registered resident for that room and had in fact crawled into someone else's bed and had gone to sleep. After being awakened, the student realized he was not in his room nor was he on the correct floor. The student informed the officers that he had been drinking tequila at a fraternity party. Since the subject was under the legal age of 21, the subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and released to a sober friend. Occurred on: 9-17-09, at 2:27 AM. COMMUNICATION BUILDING-A, 2504 Whitis Ave Burglary: A UT staff member reported an unknown subject had entered into a 5th floor office and had removed a Western Digital hard drive. Loss value: $113.00. Occurred between: 9-11-09 and 9-14-09. ERNEST COCKRELL HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Theft: A red Rei mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a U-shaped lock. Loss value: $420.00. Occurred on: 9-17-09, between 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported not receiving a Dell laptop computer that had been shipped to her by a relative. The student learned the computer had arrived to Jester Mail Service, but had been sent back due to a labeling issue. The student was unable to locate a return to sender notice. During the investigation, the officer learned a UT staff member had given the package to an unidentified subject who promised to drop it off at a mail service. Loss value: $1,000.00. Occurred on: 9-16-09. MUSIC RECITAL HALL, 2405 Trinity Ave Theft: Two 22-inch LCD televisions and wall mounting brackets were removed from a shrink wrapped pallet being stored inside a lower level storage room. Loss value: $1,340.00. Occurred between: 7-15-09 and 9-16-09. PARKING LOT 108, 1500 Block Red River Criminal Mischief: A UT faculty member discovered the driver's side window of her vehicle had been shattered with an unknown object. No entry was made into the vehicle and all of her personal property was still inside the vehicle. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 9-16-09, between 9:00 AM and 7:15 PM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A black Escort radar detector was stolen from black Honda, parked on the north end of the second level of the garage. Loss value: $475.00. Occurred on: 9-16-09, between 7:34 AM and 1:00 PM. SARAH M. & CHARLES E. SEAY BUILDING, 108 East Dean Keeton Theft: A brown leather wallet containing a Texas driver's license and several credit cards was stolen from an unsecured third floor office. Loss value: $22.00. Occurred on: 9-14-09, between 12:01 PM and 3:00 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: A new law went into effect on September 1st of this year. It is now a crime to steal a State issued driver's license or ID card. Once this thief is caught, two criminal charges can now be filed. Theft of the staff member's personal property, and an additional charge for the theft of the State issued driver's license. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported to be yelling comments to passing students that offended several students. The officers located the subject and learned the subject had been “inspired” by the University. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area and directed to other inspirational sights. Occurred on: 9-16-09, at 7:00 PM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Theft: A black leather wallet containing $8.00 in cash and several forms of personal identification was stolen after being left unattended inside a second floor men's restroom. Loss value: $22.00. Occurred on: 9-04-09, between 7:30 PM and 5:45 PM. 100 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was reported to be attempting to pull down a construction fence near the Littlefield Fountain. During the investigation, the student admitted that he had been attempting to pull it down and that it had been a stupid idea. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student's breath and learned the subject had taken six shots of alcohol and was under the legal age of 21. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-18-09, at 2:40 AM. 2200 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Burglary: Two separate UT students reported seeing two non-UT subjects carrying tools, concealed in a bag. Both subjects were seen walking around the bicycle racks located on the north side of the San Jacinto Residences Hall. Several UT police officers began searching the area and located both subjects as they emerged from the west side of the Alumni Center. Both subjects were carrying heavily laden bags. As the investigation continued, the officers soon discovered one of the bags contained 49 individual 16-oz cans of beer. The second duffel bag contained 12 unopened 16-oz cans of beer along with 19 feet of copper cable. The officers determined the beer had been removed from a storage area that had been set up for the up-coming football game. Both subjects were taken into custody for Burglary and were transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, both subjects were issued written Criminal Trespass Warnings. Loss value: $77.50 (Recovered). Occurred on: 9-17-09, at 2:48 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: A funny thing happened during this criminal event. Both students, when they called in, asked about the Hungry for Justice Program and if what they were seeing and reporting qualified for a pizza. To answer that question, What type of pizza would you like? Next week UTPD will be delivering two separate pizzas to these two alert students. You could be next. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 43 alarm calls, 5 call box alarm reports, 8 suspicious person reports, 3 collision reports, 4 medical emergency calls, 7 suspicious activity reports, and 21 unsecured door reports between 09/15/09 and 09/18/09.
