Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 09/22/09 and Wednesday, 09/23/09. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. For more information on BCAL, visit the BCAL Web site at www.utexas.edu/safety/bcal or call 512-232-5050. ****ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE**** The University of Texas Police Department will be hosting the 6th annual Citizen's Police Academy (CPA). The CPA will be held every Monday night, beginning October 5, 2009. The academy will end, November 16, 2009 with a graduation ceremony. GREGORY GYMNASIUM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A Metallic Shine cell phone and a wallet containing $100.00 in cash, two credit cards and an identification card was stolen from a black gym bag that was left on the 2nd floor basketball bleachers while the owner played a game of basketball. Loss value: $180.00. Occurred on 09/22/09 between 6:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. JESTER CENTER WEST, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Marijuana: UT police officers responded to an 11th floor dormitory room to investigate a report of the smell of marijuana. The investigation led to the discovery of one of the dormitory occupants being in possession of .148 ounces of marijuana. Occurred on 09/22/09 at 7:37 p.m. L. THEO BELLMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Criminal Mischief: A UT student approached another UT student in a 10th floor room and confronted her about her current relationship. The first UT student thought he had a right to know about the second's current relationship as they had previously shared a relationship. The first student did not care for the second student's answer so he picked up her laptop computer and threw it approximately 30 feet across the room causing damage to the computer and the wall the computer struck. The student then overturned several tables and chairs before “calmly” walking out of the room. Repair cost: $300.00. Loss value: $800.00. Occurred on 09/22/09 at approximately 2:40 p.m. MAIN BUILDING, #1 south Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as loitering in the Life Sciences Library after the library was closed to the general public. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 09/22/09 at 11:48 p.m. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: A light blue Trek bicycle was stolen from a bicycle rack located on the southwest side of the dormitory. The owner stated he used a u-lock to secure the frame of the bicycle to the bicycle rack. When the owner returned to the bicycle rack, the bicycle was missing and the u-lock was secured to the bicycle rack. Loss value: $1,000.00. Occurred between 09/21/09 at 11:00 a.m. and 09/22/09 at 3:00 p.m. SIMKINS HALL DORMITORY, 2501 San Jacinto Theft: A light blue and white colored Diamondback Edgewood bicycle was stolen while it was secured with a u-lock to a bicycle rack located on the west side of the building. Loss value: $369.99. Occurred between 09/18/09 at 4:30 p.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 15 alarm calls, 3 “Police Help” call box activations, 1 fire alarm activation, 1 medical emergency assist, 1 verbal disturbance, 4 public assist requests and 5 unsecured door reports between 09/22/09 and 09/23/09. The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. Please complete the form at http://www.utexas.edu/cellphonealert so you will become an integral part of this important emergency notification system and help the university to achieve the highest standards of campus and community safety. To view a map of the campus visit: http://www.utexas.edu/parking/maps/index.html RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
