Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 10/09/09 and Monday, 10/12/09. BRACKENRIDGE APARTMENTS, 3300 Lake Austin Blvd. Disturbance: A UT student reported a disturbance near his apartment. During the investigation, the officers learned two family members had been arguing, but no physical contact had been made. Occurred on: 10-11-09, at 4:35 AM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Possesses More than One Valid DL: A UT football fan sent a text message, notifying the UT police department of a disturbance. During the investigation, the officers located both parties that involved in the disturbance. During the investigation, the officer saw one subject attempting to conceal the contents of his wallet as he removed his driver's license. A second UT police officer was standing behind the subject and observed a second Texas driver's license stashed behind the first. The second DL was confiscated and the subject was ejected from the stadium. Occurred on: 10-10-09, at 8:17 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Disorderly Conduct- Offensive Language: A UT staff member reported two non-UT subjects were creating a disturbance within a section located on the east side. During the investigation, one subject continued to chime in from afar interfering with the interview of the other subject. As the second subject turned to leave the stadium, he informed the first subject what he intended to do with his derriere. The subject was taken into custody for Disorderly Conduct since the offence occurred in the presence of the officer. The victim declined to file charges. The second subject was escorted from the stadium and released. Occurred on: 10-10-09, at 6:55 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Theft: A UT marked football made its way into the section 5 after a fourth down play. Several UT staff members working that section attempted to retrieve the football, but their requests were denied. During the investigation, a non-UT subject attempted to conceal the football in his shirt and was very uncooperative with both the staff members and the police. The subject stated that at a baseball game the fans get to keep any fowl ball hit into the stands. The officers informed the subject he was at a football game. The officer retrieved the football and detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject was escorted from the stadium. No charges were filed. Occurred on: 10-10-09, at 9:06 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was discovered walking along the concourse with a flask in his left front pocket. During the investigation, the officer soon learned the subject was under the legal age of 21. The subject was escorted to a Dean of Student's to speak with a representative. The student refused to talk to the representative and wanted to speak to the Dean. The student then began to display his desire to be a lawyer and began to represent himself. The subject did not believe the officer was a true police officer and that the field release citation was real. After refusing a number of times to sign the citation, the subject was taken into custody for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 10-10-09, at 8:30 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Officers within the State of Texas have several options when handling alcohol related offensives. The best option is to have the suspect sign a promise to take care of the citation with the courts. When that person refuses to sign, the officer's options become very limited. Limited to a point of having to take that individual to jail. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to conceal a 12-oz. beer as he entered into the stadium. During the investigation, the officer learned the subject was under the legal age of 21. The subject claimed that his father had allowed him to drink a beer at the tailgate party they were attending. The officer had the subject's father meet them at the entrance gate, and the subject's father informed the officer that his son had not spoken the truth. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 10-10-09, at 8:18 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: While it is true that a parent can consent to allow their underage progeny to consume an alcoholic beverage, but there are some guidelines. That person must remain under the control of their parent and not leave or wander off. In other words, you have to stay with your parents no matter what, when your drinking. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed stumbling while attempting to walk up a ramp. The subject lost his balance and needed to support himself with the wall. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted the subject was somewhat confused. The officer learned the subject was attending the game with his sister. The subject's sister agreed to take care, custody and control of her brother until he had sobered up. The subject was released at the scene. Occurred on: 10-10-09, at 9:00 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered an unknown subject had taken a concrete trashcan and had tipped it over causing the trashcan to crake. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on: 10-11-09, at 1:06 AM. MAIN BUILDING, #1 South Mall Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member reported discovering the glass window inside a first floor men's restroom had been broken. Loss value: $75.00. Discovered on: 10-10-09, at 9:45 PM. MANOR PARKING GARAGE, 2017 Robert Dedman Disorderly Conduct- Fighting: UT police officers responded to the 5th level of the parking garage on a report of a large fight. Upon the officer's arrival, all of the combatants were leaving the area in two separate vehicles. The officers learned one vehicle had cut another off and both drivers got into an argument then escalated the argument. A passenger from one of the vehicles got involved in the fight that ensued. All three subjects were issued field release citations for Disorderly Conduct. Occurred on: 10-10-09, at 10:10PM. PERRY-CASTENADA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported several textbooks, a Coach purse and a Sony digital camera had been stolen from a study desk located on the 5th floor. The student reported these items had been left unattended when she went to the 1st floor to get a cup of coffee. When she returned she observed an unknown subject walking away from the area that she had been studying in. When the subject saw her he began to walk faster from the area. The unknown subject was described as: White male with dirty blond hair. The subject was last seen wearing blue jeans, solid green shirt and carrying a tan satchel. Loss value: $475.00. Occurred on: 10-10-09, between 2:45 PM and 3:00 PM. TEXAS ROWING CENTER, 300 Hearn Burglary: A UT staff member discovered the front entry door failed to close properly after exiting the building. The staff member soon discovered two video cameras and $2,600.00 in Nike shoes had been taken from a secured storage room. Loss value: $2,750.00. Occurred between: 10-10-09, at 11:45 AM and 10-11-09, at 11:00 AM. TRINITY PARKING GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT police officer discovered the passenger side window of a Chevy Cobalt broken out. The owner of the vehicle arrived and inventoried her vehicle and reported her Garmin navigation system had been taken. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred between 10-10-09 at 11:30 PM and 10-11-09, at 8:30 PM. TRINITY PARKING GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Criminal Mischief: A UT student discovered the passenger side window of his vehicle broken out. During the investigation, the officer learned the subject had left a mounting bracket for a navigation system out in plain view. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 10-11-09, between 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported urinating on the tile floor located on the second floor of the building. The subject ran into a men's restroom when she saw a UT staff member approaching the area. During the investigation, the staff member declined to file criminal charges. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the building. Occurred on: 10-11-09, at 2:17 AM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Graffiti: A UT staff member discovered words written in white gel marker ink on three of the mirrors located inside a second floor men's restroom. The staff member reported seeing three white males, all wearing black leaving the restroom prior to the discovery of the graffiti. Loss value: $100.00. Discovered on: 10-12-09, at 2:20 AM. 400 BLOCK DEAN KEETON Public Intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was seen staggering and fighting the effects of earth's gravity. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject attempted to communicate with the officer with a mush mouthed dialect that was hard to translate. The subject was confused as to his location, where he was coming from, or where he was going. The subject was taken into custody for Public intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. After being taken into custody, the officer soon discovered the subject had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for … Public Intoxication. Occurred on: 10-11-09, at 10:00 PM. 500 BLOCK WEST 24th STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer observed three non-UT subjects walking east on 24th Street that matched the description of three subjects involved in an incident at the Texas Union. During the investigation, the officer learned one of the subjects had been consuming alcohol at a friend's apartment earlier in the evening. The subject was under the legal age of 21 and was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 10-12-09, at 3:25 AM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO Public Intoxication: A UT police officer observed a non-UT subject staggering as he attempted to cross a busy street looking for support. The subject found his support by grabbing and clinging to the first available light pole. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted the subject's eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject handed a field release citation since he did not have any identification with him. The citation was from an earlier event inside the Manor Parking Garage. Due to the subject's intoxication level, the subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-11-09, at 2:55 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 34 alarm calls, 9 “Police Help” call box activations, 5 fire alarms, 4 public assist calls, 3 emergency calls, 1 suspicious activity report, 3 suspicious person calls, 3 welfare concern calls, 5 unsecure door reports, 2 light malfunction reports, and 2 found property calls, between 10/09/09 and 10/10/09.
