Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 10/16/09 and Monday, 10/19/09. JACK S. BLANTON MUSEUM OF ART, 200 East MLK Leaving the Scene Collision: An unidentified driver of a green Toyota extended cab pick-up truck drove the truck onto the plaza located on the west side of the museum. In doing this, the pick-up truck struck a handrail and caused damage to a grassy knoll. The vehicle was last captured on video surveillance leaving the area. The driver of the vehicle drove away from the scene without leaving driver information. Repair cost: $1,700.00. Occurred on 10/17/09 at approximately 9:45 PM. JESTER CENTER ACADEMIC, 201 East 21st Street Counterfeiting: A counterfeit $50 bill was used to make a purchase at the Jester City Limits Cafeteria. Discovered on 10/18/09 at 9:27 PM. JESTER CENTER WEST, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: While investigating a report of the smell of marijuana, UT officers found a UT student in a 10th floor room. The student was found to be in possession of a glass water bong containing burned marijuana residue. Occurred on 10/18/09 at 10:33 PM. PARKING LOT 80, 1900 Red River Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was found camping on a sidewalk located on the south side of the parking lot. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 10/19/09 at 11:30 AM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Mischief: An unidentified subject used yellow chalk and purple chalk to write words on the east exterior wall of the building. Removal cost: $25.00. Discovered on 10/18/09 at 9:30 AM. RECREATIONAL SPORTS CENTER, 2001 San Jacinto Theft: A grey Trek 4500 bicycle was stolen when it was “secured” with a cable lock to a bicycle rack located on the south side of the building. Loss value: $800.00. Occurred on 10/18/09 between 1:15 PM and 5:15 PM. T.U. TAYLOR HALL, #8 East Mall Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member reported seeing an unknown subject walking on the 4th floor of the building checking office doors to see if they were unlocked. When the staff member asked if he could assist the subject, the subject turned and ran to the nearest stairwell. The subject was described as a black male, approximately 30 years of age and last seen wearing a grey sweatshirt, black jeans, black back pack and a hat. Occurred on 10/16/09 at 3:12 PM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Assault: Two non-UT subjects, who happen to be twins, arrived at the Union to enjoy a concert. One of the twins became upset with the other and proclaimed she no longer wanted to go to the concert. After the two began to argue about the tickets for the concert, one pushed the other. Neither party wanted to file charges. Occurred on 10/18/09 at 8:00 PM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Public Intoxicated: A non-UT subject was reported as being intoxicated on the east side of the building. When officers arrived, they found the subject “passed out” on the ground. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point Austin-Travis County EMS needed to transport the subject to a local hospital for the treatment of alcohol poisoning. Occurred on 10/16/09 at 3:15 PM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as using a computer reserved for use by faculty, staff and students. A Union Building staff member advised the subject he needed to be off of the computer within 15 minutes. When the subject was still seen on the computer 40 minutes later, the police were summoned and asked to write the subject a criminal trespass warning. The subject was indeed issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 10/16/09 at 9:26 PM. UT ADMINISTRATION PARKING GARAGE, 1616 Guadalupe Burglary: An unidentified subject cut a 1' section of perimeter fence. A cylinder lock to a tool storage room was also broken. Tools inside the room appeared to have been tampered with. At the time of the report, no tools were reported as having been stolen. Repair cost: $120.00. Occurred between 10/13/09 at 9:00 PM and 10/18/00 at 11:15 AM. WOOLDRIDGE HALL, 600 West 24th Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as going through the trash dumpsters located on the west side of the building. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 10/16/09 at 7:42 AM. 27TH STREET GARAGE, 109 West 27th Street Leaving the Scene Of a Collision: The driver of a white Chevrolet Z71 truck cut a corner up the ramp on the 3rd level striking a parked Ford 4-door. A witness to the collision advised the driver of the truck left the scene without leaving driver information. The Chevrolet truck was found parked and unattended on the top level of the garage. Repair cost: $1,000.00. Occurred on 10/16/09 at approximately 2:50 PM. 2000 San Jacinto Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Possession of Marijuana: A UT student was observed entering Waller Creek. There was a heavy odor of marijuana emanating from the student and the surrounding area. The student offered up a glass pipe containing burned marijuana residue. The student was also found to be in possession of a plastic bag containing a second pipe and a small amount of marijuana. Occurred 10/16/09 at 9:23 PM. 2300 Trinity Leaving the Scene Collision: An unknown vehicle struck the left side door of a black Nissan Sentra while the Sentra was parked and unattended. The driver of the striking vehicle left the scene without leaving driver information. Repair cost: $1,200.00. Occurred between 10/18/09 at 4:50 PM and 10/19/09 at 12 midnight. 200 West 6th Street Assault: A non-UT subject was engaged in an altercation with two unidentified subjects. One of the two unidentified subjects punched the victim in the mouth before both unidentified subjects fled the area. The victim sustained injuries to his upper lip. The victim knew he had been assaulted, but could not recall by how many people or what the argument was about. Reported on 10/17/09 at 2:30 AM. 300 West 7th Street Driving While Intoxicated: A non-UT subject was stopped for driving the wrong way on a one-way roadway in a 2010 Ford F-350 pick-up truck. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was deemed to be driving while intoxicated. Occurred on 10/17/09 at 2:55 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 17 alarm calls, 1 “Police Help” call box activation, 1 fire alarm activation, 2 public assist calls, 2 welfare concern reports, 1 motor vehicle collision, 1 found property and 11 unsecure door reports between 10/16/09 and 10/19/09. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
