Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 10/26/09 and Tuesday, 10/27/09. GEOGRAPHY BUILDING, 210 West 24th Street Theft: A red clutch wallet containing several forms of identification was stolen when it was left in an open purse located inside an unsecured 4th floor office. The owner of the wallet left the purse in the office to go on a coffee break. When she left the office, several of her co-workers were in the office working. When she returned to the office, the door was standing open and her co-workers had left. Loss value: $30.00. Reported on 10/26/09 at 2:30 PM. JACKSON GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES BUILDING, #10 East Mall Theft: A black Apple iPhone was stolen inside a second floor classroom during class change. During the investigation, the officer learned the victim had placed the phone in his lap then stood up. He realized he did not have his phone and looked around the room for it. Loss value: $300.000. Occurred on: 10-26-09, between 8:50 AM and 8:51 AM. JESTER CENTER WEST, 201 East 21st Street Theft / Abuse of Credit Card: An unknown person used a UT student's lost UTID and made several unauthorized charges. Loss value unknown at this time. Occurred on: 10-26-09, between 7:30 PM and 9:40 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: A UTID card should be given the same security considerations as a credit or debit card. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student discovered four textbooks had been removed from a secure locker located on the 6th floor. Loss value: $275.00. Occurred between: 10-25-09 at 10:00 PM and 10-26-09, at 7:20 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: News Flash, There is a Thief(s) applying his / her trade inside PCL. Since October 1, 2009 there have been a total of 17 thefts inside the library. Most of the victims of these thefts could have avoided becoming a statistic by simply taking their property with them and not leaving their property unattended. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported he had placed his textbook inside his backpack, which was left unattended on top of a study desk located on the third floor while he ate dinner. Upon his return the student discovered the textbook had been removed from his backpack. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 10-26-09, between 6:15 PM and 7:10 PM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student discovered his textbook had been removed from a secured locker located on the third floor. During the investigation the officer discovered how the entry had been gained into the secured locker. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred between: 10-21-09 and 10-26-09. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A Sony Viao laptop computer was stolen after it was left unsecure on top of a study table. During the investigation, the officer learned the former owner had gone to the other side of the library to retrieve a pair of shorts from a friend. While doing so he had entrusted his computer to another friend to watch. The second friend stated he observed an unknown subject walk past his table then quickly exit the floor at the nearest stairwell. The unknown subject was described as: White male, 5'-8” – 6'-0” tall, with brown hair. The subject was last seen wearing a red ball cap and a black Northface jacket. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred on: 10-26-09, between 6:02 PM and 6:08 PM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Assist Outside Agency / Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member informed two non-UT subjects who were talking loudly inside a quite area of the library to lower their voices. Both subjects refused to comply with the staff members request to be quite. Prior to the arrival of the officers, one subject left the building. The second subject remained inside the quite area. During the investigation, the officer discovered the subject had six outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. The subject was taken into custody for the outstanding warrants. During a search of the subject's backpack, officers located a wooden container with a small metal pipe. The pipe contained burned marijuana residue. Additional charges for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia were filed. In addition to the law enforcement actions taken the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 10-26-09, at 3:20 PM. ROBERT A. WELCH HALL, 105 East 24th Street Criminal Trespass / Assist Outside Agency: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject inside a second floor office. The staff member recognized the subject from previous encounters with the police department. During the investigation, the officers located the non-UT subject and confirmed the subject had already received a prior Criminal Trespass Warning just 13 days ago. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass. After being taken into custody, the officers learned the subject had two outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-26-09, at 3:15 PM. 600 COLORADO STREET Assault on a Public Servant / Assist Outside Agency : A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject adding liquid nitrates to the University of Texas owned flora. The staff member attempted to usher the subject from the area, but the non-UT subject became upset and grabbed the staff member's shirt and began fighting him. After being taken into custody, the officers soon discovered the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-27-09, at 12:24 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 11 alarm calls, 2 fire alarm activations, 2 “Police Help” call box alarms, 1 suspicious odor report, 1 suspicious activity report and 2 public assist requests between 10/26/09 and 10/27/09.
