Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 10/27/09 and Wednesday, 10/28/09. BLANTON MUSEUM OF ART, 1900 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT police officer observed two non-UT subjects skateboarding on the west side of the building. During the investigation, one of the officers recognized both subjects from a previous encounter. Both subjects were issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and were escorted from the property. Occurred on: 10-27-09, at 11:34 PM. NEURAL MOLECULAR SCIENCE BUILDING, 2506 Speedway Theft: A blue and white Raleigh mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of the building after being secured with a two locking system . Loss value: $350.00. Occurred on: 10-27-09, between 2:30 PM and 5:45 PM. NORTH OFFICE ANNEX, 101 East 27th Street Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member received a telephone call from an unknown subject requesting information about the copy machines used in the staff member's office. The staff member recognized the type of call as a scam and told the call that she was not interested. After hanging up the staff member used *57 and was able to successfully trap the in-coming call. Occurred on: 10-27-09, at 8:55 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: This staff member did a great job in recognizing the making of a scam, then trapping the caller's telephone number. According to the police report, this staff member read in the Campus Watch about a similar type scam a few weeks ago and realized what the caller was wanting to do. Great Job. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported 5 textbooks had been removed from a secured locker located on the 3rd floor. During the investigation, the officers were able to determine how the secure locker had been breached. Loss value: $265.00. Occurred between: 10-25-09 and 10-27-09. UNION BUILDING #4 West Mall Theft: A black and silver Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $350.00. Occurred between 10-15-09 and 10-27-09. 2200 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Driving While Intoxicated: A white Hyundai was observed traveling the wrong way on a posted one-way street narrowly missing a head-on collision with a marked police vehicle. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the non-UT driver's breath. With a slurred dialect, the driver informed the officer that she had consumed only two beers the entire night. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The driver displayed several clues that indicated she was intoxicated. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-27-09, at 1:28 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 12 alarm calls, 1 “Police Help” call box alarm, 1 suspicious activity report, and 1 EMS call between 10/26/09 and 10/27/09.
